Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just accidentally filled up on 87 octane.......like a full tank. How bad is that going to be for the engine? If its really bad is there anything I can do to fix it?

    Re: important question!?!?!

i would not think 1 tank will hurt it. If you put diesel in it that would be a whole other story. If that ever happens.. dont even start the engine to move off the pumps!! just let the towing get it and have the tank drained.

Worst case you can drop some octane boost in your tank. 5 points octane goes for like 10$ that will bring it up to 92 and set your mind at ease.

    Re: important question!?!?!

My guess is that one tank won't hurt. You'll probably notice a reduction in power since the ECU will retard the timing to keep the engine from pinging. I wouldn't drive it especially hard either, keeping the engine temps down will reduce chances of pinging.

Yeah, dont push your engine... You can wait for a bit, like a 3/4 tank and fill it up with a high octane gas.

    Re: important question!?!?!

I would just buy a bottle of octane boost and dump it in.

    Re: important question!?!?!

Stay away from heavy engines loads and WOT. Forget the 104 Octane and similar stuff. The points they reference are 0.1 octane points. The only things that really work are things like Torco Mach Accelerator race fuel concentrate. Just take it easy and you should be fine but you'll feel better adding 1/3 to 1/2 tank of high octane as soon as you can.

you're fine. i read an article by porsche that said it's fine as well. the enginners realize that high octane fuel is not always available.

Uh, don't give out information when you don't know what you are talking about. To raise your octane from 87 to 92, you will need to raise it by 50 points. Tossing in a bottle of 5 point octane boost will raise your 87 octane to 87.5 octane, not 92.

FOR THE RECORD: 10 octane points is equal to 1 octane.

Drive the car and keep putting super in it. Your octane will rise. also, don't race it to where the computer knock sensor goes into action and you'll be fine.
