When I hear about a dog dying, it reminds me of the times I've yelled at my dog for doing something wrong, and it just tears me up inside. The love a dog shows rivals only the love a parents shows a child, unconditional. I can yell at my dog, and 2 minutes later she's licking my face, and then I feel like crap...

I still haven't forgotten the post where you told us here in the GCC about how when your family said they wouldn't keep a big dog in the house, you moved out, and lived in your car with them for a short while until you found a new place. I know how dedicated you were to her, and all animals, and that sir is respect. But look, what you once did for her, she did for you, and now you're in vet school. Remember the good times you both had, and cherish the memories.

Aww, that's a pisser. Sorry to hear it. Even roarincheetah's avatar is sad.
Just stay away from the dog threads for a while, and then start hitting the shelters. Getting a dog will help (eventually) snd rescuing might help more.
By the way, I will just go on record right now as saying that I WILL CRY LIKE A LITTLE BITCH when one of mine goes.

I know it doesn't take the pain away, but someone wrote a beautiful poem about this exact situation. Its called "The Rainbow Bridge"




Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

That sucks man I know the feeling. I ll never forget the last days I had with my dog. Its burned into my head. I get welled up thinking about it but I with those days I always remember the good times and wonderful memories. Havent gotten another dog yet and its been 2 years. That dog was simply an amazing animal I will never forget.
