Exclamation (Time sensitive) Potential SoCal R8 for slightly over MSRP

    Hi all,

I've had a deposit on an R8 for over 2 years, looks like it will finally be arriving within a couple months (Los Angeles area). Only problem is, we recently decided to embark on a major house construction effort, and it's likely I'll need to postpone realizing my R8 dreams for now.

My R8 has been built & the dealer says that it is about to be put on the boat to the U.S. They want a commitment if I'm going to see it through as they are getting a big shipment in & don't want to risk having multiple cars on-hand if others back-out. He says I need to get back to him by end of the week (after which it's committed to the boat).

Is anyone interested in taking over my deal (MSRP + $7.5k)? I'd think this would be a no-brainer especially with recent posts about how much R8's go for in Southern California (or CA in general) but who knows. My contact @ the dealer is checking if there would be any issue selling to someone else I bring in. If there's an issue, the worst case scenario is I'd have to buy it for an interested party and pass along the sales tax hit in the price of the car.

Let me know if anyone's interested or if I should potentially let this one go. The car is basically fully loaded:

    2009
    R-Tronic
    Silver/Silver (body color)
    Black leather interior
    Nav
    Premium Package
    Leather Package
    B&O Stereo system

    Thanks!

Looks like I'll confirm with the dealer that he can leave this car in Germany! Doesn't seem to be much interest from what I'm seeing (and in southern CA, no less!) so either everyone's thinking is "Phantom Black or none at all" or possibly the days of paying over MSRP for R8's is starting to come to a close.

The dealer mentioned he could get me another at whatever spec I wanted, to arrive in 4-5 months, but at this point it doesn't seem like I'd be doing anyone any favor by passing this along to them, so I will walk away from R8's entirely for a while and think about it again once I've recovered from house construction. So many places to spend money on that (home automation, anyone?), I think it may be a while.

    Best,
    SM

The SoCal market has gone quite soft in the past 2 months. There are a lot of cars sitting now at dealers and more coming in. I sold mine this morning after sitting on the market for 7 weeks and managed to just break even on it.

    Thanks for the info Liam!

On a related note, a friend of mine just picked up a GTR for around 8k-$10k over sticker. I was surprised, I figured they'd be at ~$20k over MSRP for a while. It seems like there's some widespread softening for paying premium's in general.

I know of someone that does home automation. I don't know if you already have a company in mind, but let me know if you'd like a contact number.
