good times, but trap speeds aren't as high as I thought they would be. Has anyone broken 110 mph in a B6?

Re: went to the track tonight

nice! my car is mere hours from completion, (work wise) and only one *@#$%@ coupler short. hopefully it's up and running by friday at the latest, and since im a night owl i plan to just do laps on the beltline (highway that literally goes in a circle around raleigh) logging and doing accel/decel pulls with intermittent oil changes for the next week... so i should be hitting the 1/8 mile next thursday, dyno on saturday.

we'll have to compare times yours make me feel pretty damn good (not saying i'll do better, just much better than i would have on the GTRS)

what tuning are you running again?

I ran 108.63mph with my gtrs and with a 1.6 60ft only ran a 12.75 so you are far from a low 12 with that trap. You need another 3mph. Nice to see someone running the 1/4 though.

I think he's having trouble launching the car http://audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233638

I'm not jumping down his throat... I think 13.1 is damn good time for a 2.6' --- a really really good time.

And the thing people don't realize about a BIG BIG turbo car on a small engine is the trap speed tends to go up when you launch better, shift better etc....

The reason is if he bogged, he spent a second down @ 3k - 4k rpm (still rolling down the track) trying to spool up the turbo instead of accelerating hard.....

    Even better -
He may have just rolled out and didn't launch at all....

Bog the launch, the trap speed goes up.

Only one pass? That must have sucked, I would hate to be at the track all night and only get one pass in.

IIRC the best B6 traps are 111mph as far as AZ members go.

Thats what people say..... The logic doesn't really hold true in my experience.

Everytime my ET dropped, my trap speed would increase.....

In my opinion AWD (full traction once rolling), a Big Ass Turbo, and a very small engine messes up that absolute.......... - For example if I go from 1st to 2nd too early, I have to respool in 2nd, the car is still rolling, but not really accelerating.. So both trap and ET improve on really good runs.

Im not sure how or why, but with my GTRS I trapped the same as Charlies 12.79 time yet ran almost 2 seconds slower in the 1/4

Re: went to the track tonight

only a 108 mph trap, sorry but that isn't even close to what a 375whp A4 should trap even with a 2.6 60 ft. Charlies car ran 87 in the 1/8 and 108 in the 1/8 and was only making around 320-330whp. If you were making 375whp you would end up with something closer to 25 mph gain on the big end.

LOL, sorry I thought it was another A4 owner that is running a 50 trim turbo that put down 375whp at Waterfest. Now that I think about it he owns a B5.

So I guess his trap speeds are on par if he is making 320-330whp at 22psi with his 57 trim.

I would still think with a 2.0 stroker, 57 trim turbo with a stage 5 compressor wheel he would have done better then 87 and 108 traps.

I think he said he was making some where in the range of 310-350 @ some uber low boost of 15 psi or something.

I ran a 8.1 @ 84mph in the 1/8th on my 12.75 run but still strapped 108 like Charlie's car. Yeah his time and speed are very weird. You would think that a 13.1 with 2.6 60ft would mean the car could do atleast a 12.5 just by dropping to a 2.0 60ft and that is not being generous, it would be more like 12.3 even with a 2.0 60ft or something like 12.0 with a 1.7 but that mph of only 108mph is weird, even if it went up 3mph you aint running no 12.0 at 111mph.

Wonder if he let off for some reason.

Yea I was wondering the same thing. With a 2.6 60ft and a 13.1 ET should mean that some fast times are possible. Just weird that he didn't pick up more speed then he did from the 1/8th to the 1/4. Good run though.

Yes but not all 1.8 transmissions are the same seeing that the B6 1.8 came with a 5 speed and 6 speed if you haven't forgotten. The 2.8 will hit 108-109 mph in 4th gear at 5600 rpm, but 3rd gear can hit those speeds by 7600 rpm. So the 2.8 could actually help him not hurt his time since he could have finished that run in 3rd gear.

Looking at this thread it doesn't seem that he put what gear he was in when he hit the finish line.

Re: went to the track tonight

If I recall correctly Mike picked up quite a few mph when he put a 1.8 back in an took the 2.8 trans out.

And I am having trouble getting a torque plate for the machine shop my block is at since it is currently rented out and the guy has had it for a month already. Just talked to Bob, I am going have my block sent back to me and then im going to send it to him to have it bored, cleaned and decked as soon as he gets it then back to me. Gonna cost me another $200 or so with all the shipping but it will be worth not waiting another month or who knows how long to get the damn block bored.

My room has been over taken by boxes of so many parts!

It always takes longer than you think huh? I know it all too well I'm on round 2 lol.... Anyway SUPER glad your going with Bob, Charlie was giving you the wrong clearance and it sounded like your machine shop didn't have the right parts, I went through Bob as well

The clearances that are on the paper with the pistons say Min. Clearance .00276" or .07mm so that is less than what all you guys are saying you have had them set at seeing I have heard .003 and .004, guess I will leave that up to Bob now though.

follow the damn piston specification sheet. dont listen to other people.... they come with the sheet for a reason.

although i must say for a forged piston that is tight! considering stock pistons have more clearance than that.........

GLAD to hear that! I was worried that you'd fall victim to a shitty machine-shop work.
