I bought the kit and need to replace the boot on both sides. Any writeups on this?

It's easier than it sounds. It's also not a very clean job to do, so be prepared.

hint: step 8 can be a complete PITA. I pounded at it for 30 minutes and it didn't budge an inch... and trust me, it's not because I need to spend more time in the gym.

Instead, if you thread the bolt that holds the joint to the hub all the way back in, it'll pop off super easy. It keeps you from having to worry about popping the inner joint off too.

    Otherwise the writeup works great.

I forgot to mention that part. Good call.

Word to the wise though. If the axle that's already in there is aftermarket, they don't come off like OEM's do. I'd just replace the axle if there's an aftermarket one already in there. And replace it with an OEM reman. They're not real expensive.

Just go to your regular auto parts store. Should be less than $10 and they should be able to get it for you within a day or so.

ECS Tuning should have them as well. I've used AutoHausAZ as well for stuff like that.

Re: Any info on changing my cv boots?

If you have to re-boot both ends and pay for labor, you might as well just replace the axle w/ a rebuilt OE axle.

I think we charge ~1.5hrs @ $78/hr to do the outer boot, + parts $25. Replacing an axle is the same labor IIRC and $80-105 axle. Replacing both CV boots is more labor.

Re: Any info on changing my cv boots?

I just finished changing my axel. What a mess is right and the pinch bolt took half the day. I could not imagine going through all of the extra work to change both boots. Def. go with a complete axel.

Re: Any info on changing my cv boots?

very simple and straight forward to do....don't buy a rebuild kit, buy the whole axle....I think i got mine from ecs for like 120 a piece.... I did both my fronts in about 3hours(+-)

    well, gl!

I have hear horror stories about the pinch bolts...but I have never had the slightest problem with mine....I take both of them out regularly and I usually dip them in lithium grase upon re-installation....

I've replaced both boots before and it's a PIA to save $70-80 bucks. Done both ways and it's not worth it to me. Plus there is the chance the CV joint is damaged due to the loss of all that grease.

Hmm, I guess I might as well just replace the whole thing from what everyone says.

Re: Any info on changing my cv boots?

I washed my wheels yesterday and today I see black grease on them. My axle is coming out tomorrow for a new boot for now.

Is it a total necessity to remove the pinch bolt on the drivers side. Can I just turn the wheels all the way and pull the axle out that way?

heres how is how i do it sebastian... with the car still on the ground, have someone step on the brakes and break the axle bolt loose... then take off the lower ball joints and then the inner bolts for the axle... thread the bolt back in and bang out the splined part of the axle, and its out... i HATE fighting with the axle with the wheels turned, just pop off the ball joints
