    replaced coilpacks CEL still on

Picked up a set of new coils from Audi this morning and popped them in the motor. when I took the cover off #3 was out of the engine by about an inch - it wouldn't reseat comfortably and the idle was rough even after I relocated it.
With new coils in the car runs well (no flashing CEL). But I still have the CEL on.

I did drive the car in limp mode when the coilpack went for about 30 miles - very conservatively. Did I just screw up my new HFC? Any thoughts as to what else may be throwing the CEL on?

I'll try to get a VAGCOM reading next week but was wondering if this is a common issue...

    Shiny new coils in place:

i remember when my coils went out, i unplugged my battery on the negative for a couple of minutes, then reconnected it and cel went off. the traction light was on for a couple of minutes but went off after about a quarter mile. try doing that, and see if it reprograms itself

A loose plug can pop off a coil pack

I know - it could really be anything - I'm in Vermont for the weekend so I suspect I won't be able to find a vag-com opportunity 'til next week...

I'll bring back some Leviathan IPA from Harpoon in Windsor & the winner can collect

the cel will clear itself after a day or so...just as long as everything is ok.

Re: replaced coilpacks CEL still on

When one of my coil packs went a few months ago, it took a day before the CEL turned itself off. After replacing the coil pack, the car ran like a champ but even after turning the car off and on a few times during that same day, the CEL remained on. I suspect it just needs more on/off cycling time before it resets itself.

Exactly it will clear if all is well, just give it a little time, and are you running the AWE GT28R kit?

Yup - had it on for 1200 miles now - was doing a third gear overtake on the weekend when power dropped and the CEL started flashing...

I've posted my initial impressions of the kit elsewhere -
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=232889

I plan to do some more spirited driving this weekend ahead of taking it back to the shop for some tweaks (rear end is too low, new BBS rims to go on and I'm contemplating a B5 S4 front brake swap). I'll post with more impressions once I've lived with it for a whie longer.

haven't driven it since last night so I'll post at the weekend if it goes...

when I got back last night I was revving it rather hard up my street and one of the guys from my parking garage was outside. I rumbled into the garage and gave it a few blips before ignition off - the guy came inside to park the car for me - I'm pretty sure he's Puerto Rican - and he said:
"I like your car, she has beautiful voice"

    nice.
