    VIS CF "GT" hood opinions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Let me start by saying I would be painting it if I bought it. I don't like raw cf hoods on cars, but I would like some weight savings, and I like the look of this one. Almost looks like the top secret hood I had on my supra. Also, my hood is dinged and scratched to shit. Mainly I am just in the mood to try something different. I like how aggressive this hood looks and it's not incredibly ricey.

Yay or nay? Anyone have it? The picture in my head of it on a nogaro, fully painted looks pretty good.

Could just have it wrapped in vinyl, this way your not adding weight and you can remove it if you feel like showing some CF or end up selling it.

Re: VIS CF "GT" hood opinions

^ ahh like that beemer guy that did his car white. Interesting idea, but I wouldn't be worried about selling it. I'll sell my stock hood if anything.

I'm assuming I would have to run hood pins with this? Is that really a pain in the ass? I've never on any of my cars installed them.

    Keep the opinions coming.

As long as your front mount is still busting through like in your avatar I say go for it. The hood matches the aggressive look of the front mount.

If weight or weight distribution is the concern you can get more benefit by relocation the battery to the rear or just swapping it for an Odyssey.

fmic is a little more subtle now; I installed side grilles over the pipes and got the cxracing kit so they are a bit smaller and fit better. Still aggressive though.

I really think this hood will look good. It doesn't scream honda to me. The vis "euro" one does, and the "invader." This one is tasteful.. and functional (my engine gets hot with the fmic in front of the rad)

jung: it doesn't surprise me someone was hated on. I mean, it's not stock or RS4 so immediately it's red flagged on AZ.

I dont think the vents are actually open to help pull air out. They would most likely get in the way of the frame.

Vorsteiner hood. that way you can paint it noggy, but leave the vent raw.

idk man... I think that it would encourage more flow over the top of the motor. since air is rammed in through the grille, and just into the motor bay; i think with the hood having vents, the air would make its way through the motor bay, and hot air would dissipate better. I'm no physicist, but that's just what it looks like to me... If someone wants to rebut with some knowledge on hte subject though, I'm open to learning.

but do it dude.. don't let people tell you that you have to get strictly "euroooo" parts.. be different. that's why i want to go rwd. surprise some people, be diff.

ummmm bad advice, specially if you drive an S4...the stock hood latch holds it in place till you hit about 80mph after that the hood looks like its going to kiss your windshield...buy the aerogear flat hood pins i did and the damn thing doesnt move at all...tested at 100+++mph no problem...;)

I know what the vents would do, I have a vented Fiber Images hood and before that had a Vorsteiner hood. I was just saying that I dont think the vents on that VIS hood are actually open

All CF hoods are made to operate like stock, but the problem is that the mounting spots are just inserted into the frame or between the frame and skin, this means at high speeds the hood can be pulled away from the latch. This is why most CF companies recommend using hood pins. The Aerocatch hood pins are very easy to install.

pacman: pics please!! Just post em in the thread. I think we would all like to see some widebody imola content

derek: not a big fan of the vorsteiner. I'm assuming that's the one that just has those vents in the middle? I kinda like the look of this one better.

mike2ptzero: Thanks for clearing that up. I figured after spending over 600 bucks I would want to protect my purchase. I've only heard good things about those aerocatch pins.

rolledmysti: Thanks. I miss her dearly

everyone else: Thanks for the opinions. In the end, it's my choice. Although i do value all of your opinions, hence the reason I posted this.

I may be pulling the trigger on this in the coming week. Would prefer to sell my 19's first but we'll see.

totally rice dude, I don't know how you can consider a honda civic hood on an audi not rice.

if you want to allow air from under the hood to escape, simply shim the back of the hood up and remove the weather stripping. at least that way you don't have rain and snow going though those vents (if they are even open) and into your engine bay.

I'd also look into CF front fenders for even further weight savings.
