So today, I checked my back driver side seat and the floor were completely flooded.. it was drenched with water..It was only the back seat on the driver side though.. I had my windows closed through all times during the past days it rained and I checked everywhere but no signs of how the water got in.. are there any ac hoses that are connected underneath that area? ANY DIY with pictures on how to take apart the carpet? I want to fix this problem asap before it happens again.. thanks..

Re: Anyone had any water leaking in through the back seat floors? need help

I havnt had problems with my back drivers side, but did have the back passenger side damp after rain.

I think it comes from drain tubes from the sun roof? but dont quote me from that. I do know the drain tubes do get plugged at times so this could be the problems.

I think I remember seeing a diy on audiworld on how to replace the drains that go to the sunroof.

Do you have a powercable (to amp or whatever) going from the battery through the corner of the firewall (down by the foam plug/grommet on the driver side corner) or any where else into the interior of the vehicle?

ok try a couple things, u can try to drain the sunroof drain, if that doesnt work, go another route. have a friend pour water on the car while your inside so u can pinpoint the location. i did this myself and ended up being the cable goin form the battery to teh amp, the shop never sealed it and ran water from the firewall, on top of the fuses and finally the floor, it would really get flooded fast. process of elimination is your friend.

thats why i asked, i had the same problem with my passat, its amazing how much water can drain into the car.

To dry up the water, you can by some power from homedepot (i forget the name) you spread it and it absorbs it very well. You want to get that water out, before you have mold issues and sensitive electronics go caput.

I remember i had amp wires connected from the fuse box all the way back to the trunk when i bought the car but i ripped all of those off when I got it... I never really sat in the back seat before so I never really noticed any leaks until today when i was cleaning out the back..

is there a write up on how to take off the carpets because when i tried cleaning up the water using an"ABSORBENT" wash towel, I tried to lift up some of the carpet a litlte and noticed a crapload of water underneath the carpet..and also, if it is the cable going from the battery to the amp then how would i seal it? thanks

didnt really check yet.. but this morning i checked my front driver side and apparently that that area is wet also... I had no idea that it was wet from the beginning.. I only thought it was the back.. Im going to run a test today and see where the leak is actually coming from..

yea its most likely form your firewall, if there is a hole, seal it, if not try teh ecu cover, those can leak as well which you would have to take out, take the original seal out, clean the area, add some rtv, put teh seal back in, more rtv on top of it, and put the box back in.

im prob. 99.9% sure that its nothing else but ur drains in the firewall are cloged from leafs and other shit. try the following take out the rain tray and the battery (make sure u have the code for the radio first before u disconect the battery). u will c u have a puddle of watter between the two firewalls and if so clean out the drains there is two of them and u shouldnt have this problem for a while anyumore. hope it helps

if you ripped out an amp wire i will bet its coming from there just like myself and amc said. Find the hole and seal it up with black or clear silicone. That will do the trick.

I looked for a write up before to fix this same issue. The water will stay under your carpet for some time if you don't get to it. To remove the carpet you basically have to take the whole interior out:) Seats, dash, panels...everything. I just backed the seats up and cut the carpet where one wouldn't be able to see and under the dash. The sides will pull up if you take the floor panels off.

I know exactly what happens as its happened 2 times to me , the drain plugs under the battery and brake servo clog up and with heavy rain the water rises goes in through the pollen filter housing which needs to be re sealed by the way down the airducting and runs down to the back seat floor well . Use a heater and a portable suction hoover with good water suction capability , it draws all the water up and out , then finish with a heater . Make sure you put you heater on max heat and focus to the floors this will dry up the rest .hope this helps

After you remove the battery and tray there should be a rubber drain nipple type plug, clean out all the leaves and remove the rubber plug completely and you wont have this problem again. Audi actually had a recall for this but it only applied to the A6 models. You can also open your sunroof and poor water slowly into each four corners and see if it comes out by the wheels or if it is goint into the interior. To clean the sunroof drains get an air hose with a long nozzle and blow air into each of the holes to the drain tubes and re-check for leaks. Removing the carpet isnt that hard, take out seats, center console and sill trims and it will come out. If you dont remove the carpet and let it air dry or it will get moldy and you will kick yourself for not doing it.

I may have a weird situation. Got in my car the other day after 2 days of constant rain and there was a puddle in the rear driver side footwell. Looked as if it was coming through the HVAC under the driver side seat. Well tomorrow I'm lifting the carpet up to have it dry for a few days but I wanted to try to pinpoint the problem. My plan of attack was to look under the battery tray and remove that black thing, clean everything up under there, then look at the sunroof drains. When I bought the car, the a pillars and c pillars all had a white haze on them. Almost like they were wet at some point and then dried up. I didn't ask the previous owner about it, but is it possible the sunroof drains are leaking water behind those pillars? Is that were the hoses go?

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wanted to say thank you for this thread. I recently had this issue and googled the problem, this thread came up and it was exactly my issue. I want to bump it just to help other who come across this thread. I noticed water in the rear passenger floor area. It was the drains under the battery getting clogged. It was only blocked by 2-3 leaves, it wasn't super dirty in there so even if you haven't been parking under a tree it's worth checking if you see this. For me the water in the battery area came through the AC line grommet, I could hear the water coming through I didn't know what it was until now. It's wet under the passenger front seat and floor area as well, but it's not as noticeable from the top side of the carpet. I've pulled up the carpet completely and letting it dry out now. It's surprising how much water the foam under the carpet absorbs while the top layer feels dry. I'd recommend pulling up your carpet and wringing out the carpet.

    best of luck!

I had a similar issue pop up recently after replacing my battery. Turns out that there's some sort of plastic water catch/diverter tray under the cowl on RH side of vehicle. It was out of position so water off the windshield was being sent straight into the fresh air duct! Simple fix and no more water on my rear passenger foot well area. Spent some serious time cleaning all of that out with a shop vac... don't want mold growing!
