Make sure that you get the oil cap from 09 R8s, cause the 08 is a lot cheaper but not vented. They are on back order from Audi as well.

i just ordered the coolant cap and the oil cap from my local dealership and it cost 85 bucks total. It will be here on tuesday so i dont think they are on backorder. May want to call other dealerships

Is the 420...number for the 09 r8? That is what my local dealership told me that there are two different caps. One for the early r8s and the 420 number in their system says its for a 09 r8. Would this be the vented caps? Also will the coolant caps for the 09 fit on our cars?

I have the R8 oil cap, but it doesn't go to the original position, it is about 30 degrees "tilted". I don't know how that one in the photo is in normal position.

i got an 08 R8 cap and its the same as any new audi's oil cap, then i asked about the 09 cap and its $70 CDN +tax, so i said fuck it. I need new brakes more than a bling oil cap.

Well I finally got my R8 oil cap, it's vented and it fits. However mine is cocked unlike the one in the pic^^^

Same issue, that and it sits abnormally high ontop of a 1.8t engine, any ideas how this guy got his to sit right?

ok UPDATE:

I just installed mine.

1: it is NOT vented. Although the punchouts that are pressed onto the plastic could certainly be drilled out if you wished, The cavity inside the cap is substantial so no worries about oil flowing all over the place.

2: minor modification required to orient the cap. It splits apart in two halves, the seam is hidden by the engine cover ring seal.


To modify, split it apart, cut new notches and snap back together, I used a grease pencil to mark the spot where the new gooves go by marking the tabs, then pressing it back together while on the car and oriented correctly.

Honestly it looks a little out of place. Im not sold on the look. Might sell it.

420 121 321 is the coolant reservior cap.


Oil cap# 420 103 485 B is the newest version for R8 cars with VIN# 1200 and later.


BTW, the oil cap that came on my 2004 A6 2.7T is a vented one and it matches the motor nicely. It is part number:

078 103 485 F

It's probably the one that Vast sells as the updated vented one.
