    Help with coilovers

    I have searched found information on both, but never any information comparing the two. I am looking at suspension for my car and was looking at either koni or h&r street coilovers.

    Anybody had any experience with either and or both?

    I have KONIs on. Very nice set. I got mine during a Group buy from WRD(THANKS). Definite improvement in vehicle dynamics, less body roll, more steering response... and make car looks more aggressive. I believe the H&R Coilovers are more expensive and also of very good quality. I'm not sure how much of a difference in ride quality you're notice between the two.

    the h&r would be slightly more expensive but I would be willing to shell out a couple hundred extra for quality. I am also going to be doing new control arms, tie rod ends, and sway bars at the same time, so if i can save a little I am not going to complain either ha.

    Both companies make quality parts.

    If you're interested in the Koni coilovers, take a look into the Stasis Street Sports. It's a set of Koni Adjustables tuned by Stasis. Basically, you won't ever need to adjust them other than height. They're set and sent ready to install, for not much more $$.

    Keep in mind that the spring pressure only effects ride quality if the damper(shock, strut coilover...) isn't tuned correctly.

    onemoremile has Shine Racing Suspension on his Avant. IIRC it's almost twice the stock spring rates and rides like stock on the street. The dampers are custom tuned by SRS though for those springs specifically.

    I was looking at the install instructions and noticed something about cutting a slot. I didn't quite get that seeing as i didnt read it completely. I already closed the window so was wondering if you could answer what that was. Is it to adjust ride height and is this the only way to actually do this?

    I am no expert, but the H&R Street coilovers are actually cheaper than Konis and are not damper adjustable (other H&R models are more expensive). As stated above, the Stasis SS are basically the Koni's that are adjusted through many conducted survey's on what the consumer preferrs and they send the coilovers tuned according to thier analysis of the data they collected. That is why many never change the damper on the Stasis from factory settings, as they already feel it is set just perfect. The Koni's you would have to adjust out of the box personally (or have mechanic do it). And fwiw, when I get my suspension done I will be getting the Stasis SS.

    But when it comes to suspension or brakes, onemoremile is the man to ask.

    The rear suspension mount can be modified to allow for access to the rebound adjustment with the suspension
    installed on the car. Please verify that the customer would prefer this modification.
    �� Using a proper cutting tool and safety glasses cut a slot across the mount below the upper rear shock mount.
    Verify first that you will be able to access the KONI rebound adjustment wheel then widen the slot so that it is both
    long enough and wide enough to allow for a full sweep of the wheel. DO NOT ADJUST THE DAMPERS. These
    have been preset by STaSIS for the customer’s valving and spring rates.
    The ride height adjustment is separate from the damping adjustment. Cutting that slot is for damping adjustment. That's the part that I said you'll pretty much not have to mess with, as it's pretuned.

    Both front and rear are adjusted for height by the threaded damper sleeve as almost all coilovers are adjusted.
