    headlight washer problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
here is my problem, i already searched forum but found nothing relating to my problem.

with headlights in the "off" position, by using washers, it works fine. I can get the water to shoot onto windshield and the wipers wipe away the washer fluid.

with the headlights in the "on" position. the pump squirts a bit of washer fluid on the windshield, wipers activate, fuse pops and headlight washers never activiate. the fuse ALWAYS blows when i try to use the washers and the headlights are "on" if the headlights are "off" works fine everytime. its warm here in east coast still so i know the headlight washers aren't frozen to the bumper which can blow the fuse if you try to use them. i don't want to have to turn off my lights during the winter just to use my wipers when the salt/dirt/snow builds up on the windshield.

so far i've gone through 13 fuses and i can't figure out why my headlight washers won't work and winter is around the corner. TIA for any insight or help!!

You probably have a short somewhere in the headlight washer circuit.

    Re: headlight washer problem

Headlight washers are covered under the CPO warranty, I had a leaky one replaced. Yours seem to be electrical so certainly covered... GL

If I had to guess it would definitely be covered under your CPO warranty.

    Re: headlight washer problem

are you using a 25a or a 30a fuse? the originally 25a fuse is wrong.

    Re: headlight washer problem

i'm using the 25a fuse that it says to use on the fuse cover. i've been using that fuse for the past 2 years and it worked fine. only now i've had the problem with fuses blowing out all the time with the lights on. which fuse do you use? it won't void the warranty if you use a dif amp fuse will it?

    Re: headlight washer problem

there is a spare 30a fuse in the box to the right. i learned this recently as i went a year with no wipers at all, replaced the fuse and voila!

    Re: headlight washer problem

hey, i have the same problem as you. i thought it was the windshield washer pump that went broke, but it wasn't. because when i took it all apart and replaced it, the problem was still there, and the headlight washers never fired.

thing is, there's another pump in there, another bigger one. the one that powers the windshield is about cell phone size. the bigger one powers the headlamp washers (it's higher pressure spray). my next step would be to replace that. but for now, i'm thinking of just disconnecting the wiring to that big pump, because i never need the headlamp washers anyway. at least then i wouldn't have to turn off the lights to use the washers at night. just keep a few spare 25A fuses in the car in case you forget.

    hope that helps
