Transmission Problem- Bought car 3 days ago- 04 USP 6SPD

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hey guys, i just bought an 04 USP. I loved it, until i put 400 miles on it and it wouldnt go in gear (6 speed). Had it towed, a service station said it was the clutch slave cylinder, they put a new one in and apparently it exploded. They tried again and they said that the transmission was putting too much pressure on it.

The car is most likely on its way to an Audi Dealership now. The dealership I bought it from is bending me over so I just gotta get this thing fixed now. How much would audi rip away from my wallet for a new clutch.

Any idea what it could be if not a complete clutch removal?

It was really weird because before the breakdown, the clutch had no problem functioning and never made and sounds or weird pedal reactions.

    Thanks bros.

New clutch will be 1600+ that is what I was quoted for my 5spd, I assume the 6spd is similar in removal put the clutch and what not maybe more. I can't believe they charge so much I was able to do mine in 6 hours yet audi says it a 11 hour job.

I'de take it back to the stealership, and say fix it. You should not have to be spending out of pocket money 2-3 day's after you bought the car.

Re: Transmission Problem- Bought car 3 days ago- 04 USP 6SPD

Same thing happened to me. When I bought my 04 w/ the 6 speed tranny about a 1/2 hour off the car lot I go to shift from 2nd into third and BANG, my pedal clutch pedal sinks to the floor and I cant go into any gear. I had to coast into a parking lot and wait for a tow truck. Turns out the clutch was toast but luckily the dealer I got it from covered all the expense including the tow. When I talked to the mechanic that did the work he said that a new clutch job would have run me about 1700.00 if I would have had to pay for it.

I really really really hope/dont think it is the entire clutch. It was so smooth and it goes through the gears just fine with the car off, but when it is on, it just wont allow me to press into the gears.

oh yeah 60k on the motor. if that helps.

Is there any pressure in the pedal? Or if you touch it, it just slams to the floor?

you need to go talk to the sales manager... if he refused to fix it, tell him you are filing a complaint with KBB.. unless you cant drive a stickshift, something was clearly wrong before they sold it to you

the car is currently being towed to fairfax,va(the dealer) and they are going to have their AUDI trained mechanic do the fixings. They claim that the clutch is not covered under 'powertrain' warranties but they are going to give me a 50% discount on Parts/Labor. Still retarded seeing how they have had me bent over.

and yes i can drive a stick.

Re: Transmission Problem- Bought car 3 days ago- 04 USP 6SPD

Man I had to replace my clutch 6 months after I bought it. Quote was 2200 which included other maintenance. Then I show up to the dealer when they FINALLY fix it and its 3200. They failed to inform me they had to replace the flywheel, which according to them was nearly 900 + tax.

I say figure out EXACTLY what the problem is, then go buy your own parts. If I could go back in time I could have spent half that on an upgraded kit.

i see where you are coming from, but seeing how I just got this car, I really just want it fixed and not throw anymore variables in before I am able to actually enjoy my new purchase/hobby.

Well at least don't buy the parts from the dealer. You can get the same thing much cheaper if you go anywhere else. OEM is fine, just not from dealer.

+1 for don't order the stock clutch from the dealer...

have the dealer do the labor and get either an OFE HD or OFE SS clutch from Southbend! HD is cheaper at around $450, SS holds more power, is stiffer, and is around $600 I believe. Sucks the dealer won't give you free labor, they only knocked 10% off the cost when I had my clutch blow out on me. I ended up paying $1100 labor for the clutch job at my dealer, and another $500 for the HD clutch. Much happier with my aftermarket clutch, and it holds a ton of power too.

I didnt purchase the car from an AUDI dealership. Its a luxury car place but not super dooper nice. So I dont think the rates are going to be quite as high. Does everyone think that I really need a whole clutch?

And guys thanks, you guys have made me feel welcome here in audizine and I will prob spend a lot of time on here. I reached out for help a week ago on audiforums and not one person got back to me. hopefully after this tranny fiasco ill have some better things to post.

The Audi clutch slave cylinder is made of plastic...

If the shop who installed it, is infamiluar with Audi's and their slave cylinders, they could of easily damaged the plastic slave cylinder...

I would ask to actually see your old slave, and the new one which were damaged.

A bad slave would not allow you to shift into any gear, and not just 6th.

Because the slave works the same for each and every gear, each and every time.

My guess, its something with your shift linkage...

Re: Transmission Problem- Bought car 3 days ago- 04 USP 6SPD

if it ends up being the clutch, stick with the stock flywheel if you need one. putting a lightweight FW in a 6spd can cause vibrations. trust me, i researched a TON on this because i am doing a clutch within the week. (supposed to be tomorrow, but my OFE SS hasnt gotten here yet.)

thats pretty bull that the dealer wont pay. you should look up the lemon laws and screw them over. when i baught my 2002 a4(old car) the clutch went out in 3 days and i didnt pay a dime. i had a 90 day warrentee that cleary stated wearable items werent covered. but it was 3 freakin days!

well thats what we all thought, then the service station put in a new one and it exploded. how likely is it that theres something special you have to do to these compared to domestics and what not that could have caused the malfunction?

lets just say this: we had a guy that didnt want to replace a brake light bulb because it cost too much. he went to a so called "service station" and they managed to short the entire lighting system out putting that bulb in. thats how good those places are.

now im not saying theyre all that bad, but i wouldnt trust my AUDI at a place like that unless i knew the place/people that worked there.

I think there is some thing wrong with the clutch and either way they have to pull the trans to check it so either way I would have them put a clutch in.
