Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector NEW PICS!!!

I don't need a lecture about this being bad or blah blah blah. I know they are useless cause they aren't 3k. I have NEVER I repeat NEVER been flashed because of these. The cut off of the 4.2 fog projector is pretty good. I had to turn to this because the pre-facelift OEM HID lights suck so bad. If I can find the set of 02+ projector reflectors I need, these will be gone. Like I said, just posting a pic. I don't think a lot of people know that it actually has a projector in the fog housing. I also thought a pic might help someone one day SEARCHING for info.

Some better pics I snapped tonight without the headlights. I adjusted the height of the foglights. As you can tell in the first pic, they were not even.

Re: Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector

    Stampy,
I think it looks fking perfect. I am going to do an HID fog light switch, and that is the exact outcome I want. Most idiots try to use Hid in their fog lights without a projector. The light would be everywhere. If you get your 02 projectors would you want to sell them? Where did you find the projectors.
    Thanks
    Tom

Re: Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector

The fprojectors are stock inside the foglights on the 4.2. I think the facelifts have them too, but I could be wrong. I am looking for the 02+ projector surround from the actual headlight housing. I have a set of Ecode bi-Xenon projectors that I want to swap into the headlight. The 90mm projector wont bolt into the 01- lights though.

I am very happy with how these look. I was very wary of doing this. I had a brand new set of VVME HID's sitting around though, so I just swapped them in to see. As I mentioned before I have not had any complaints about them or been flashed. If I was I would take them out. I have pretty sensitive eyes, and I want to run every X5 off the road for blinding me. I even swapped cars with my buddy and drove with him at night and didn't complain. The 4300K's did pretty well in dense fog, which was supposed to blind me.

Sorry about the shitty cell phone pic. I was even parked straight in front of the garage when I took it.

i've got the exact same thing on my car.. and i've been trying to figure out why the headlight beam is so shitty... i guess i need whole new headlight housings to make the facelift projectors work?

Re: Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector

I do not think the color temp is as much an issue as HIDs in fogs that are not focused being the problem. That cutoff looks great.

I guess I will have to actually examine my fogs. I did not realize they were projectors.

Have your looked into euro projectors? The lens and shield are different and result in a more focused beam.

I have a set of the euro ecode projectors for the C5. I really want them in my car.

Here are some pics of the actual fog light unit...

    reason for the cut off....

    How its held in

and another bad pic of the beams..

once again, sorry about the pic quality. These are from my cell

Re: Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector

I will admit, despite the use of HID bulbs in there, the cutoff pattern is great on those projectors. I really want to put a set of small projectors in my bumper this winter.

Thanks for showing the details on the setup.

daft, do the facelift cars 02+ have the projector fogs? I thought they shared parts with the 4.2 from 00+?

Nope. Plain old reflector POS'es. They're huge too. I had to remove them to allow my AWE smics to get some air. I still can't comprehend how those things were ever meant to allow air into the intercoolers.

That looks f-ing perfect! What color temp are you running? I had 4300k on my VW and they were still a bit blue lookng.. also, what brand? They seem to match the factory HID perfectly!

As stated before in the thread. The 4.2 has the projector foglights. I don't think that the 2.7t/2.8/3.0 got them. Not even the facelifted cars got them apparently, and they were made to look like the 4.2. Just go take out your foglight and look at it.

Thanks for the compliment. They are both 4300K. The kit itself is a VVME kit. The OEM lights have OSRAM bulbs in them.

Re: Pic of HID's beam in the fog projector NEW PICS!!!

i bought a set of 04 a6 headlights and i slapped em in my 99 a6 and they fit perfect minus where the grill is, theres a small gap but the weather stripping seems to close the gap... no ones ever noticed it either.. and it looks normal. there such a better cut off than my old ones. i also bought a 55 watt 4300k kit from DDMtuning.com its 3 times brighter than a 35 watt kit.. its awsome. my new headlights also make the car look newer, its something with the huge projector that makes it look newer. there also bixenon which is great, so i have the bixenons and the normal halogen brights come on. ill post some pics to show how it looks.

thanx for the compliments guys. I'll try to get a good front end pic without the glare.

Since I have gotten a few PM's and people have posted this....I ONLY did this because the 4.2 has projectors in the foglights. If you do this to a regular A6, it will look like shit and blind everyone.

    Looks damn good.
I didn't notice they were projector fogs until the other day when I put the yellow LaminX film on. I may have to invest in a 3k kit now.

    2 things.

I have an 01 2.7T and I got the stock projectors in the fogs, and the second is whats the difference between those and the 02+, which are being discussed?
