Replaced intake runner arms on the 4.2...

As many of my fellow 4.2 owners the secondary intake runner arms broke. Many don't even know they are broken. A lot of times the arms actually seize in the either the short or the long intake path. So you are driving with one set of cylinders getting different air than the other. I have read stories of people losing 30hp on the dyno because one or both were broken. I can't say I felt 30hp. I did whomp the shit out of a car that ran before I swapped the arms. The prior run we had we were neck and neck. We have never really had a good replacement. The dealer just sells the whole assembly for like $300, and only a few have attempted custom ones. One of these guys is on AW and I was lucky enough to get a pair from him. He is still kind of in the testing faze, but I don't think he has much to worry about. I don't see these things breaking. Build quality is far beyond what the factory produced and install was a breeze.

I am waiting to hear from him as far as what he wants to do about selling these. Thats why I'm not giving his info out right now.

The old fix. It worked fine actually, but I always wanted something a little more quality

Front of the motor. Take off the cover in the middle and its a few inches below that coolant line you see.

Re: Replaced intake runner arms on the 4.2...

Change the length of the intake runners over 4000k rpms. Under 4k they are in long runner mode, over 4k they are in short runner mode. They are each connected to a valve that is vacuum driven on one side. The other side is connected to the actual lever that performs the change over. If you have someone rev your car and you stand in front and stare at it. You can see them working. Its pretty cool actually, but the arms break a lot. Like I said before, some people had actual dyno numbers of hp loss.

I'll try to post a video later.

Re: Replaced intake runner arms on the 4.2...

I recived a set off the same guy for my 02 s6 stock ones are good right now but he got me a set think he made mine as the first for the s6 as its not the same as the a6 4.2 / a8arm.

He is a great guy and the product as you stated is a lot better than stock.
