Sb Stage 3 Clutch Wear In

Shop told me to take it easy for 500 miles.

    Is that enough?

Can I not boost? Or just avoid rough take offs, etc?

500 is a common mark for clutch wear in. No launches, try to avoid quick shifts, stuff like that. I.E. once you have the clutch engaged you can floor it if you want.

500 miles is good. You can boost just try not to be in boost while shifting

    Clutch went out shorty after.

I guess I should delete that.

you need at least 500 city miles of stop and go, stay out of boost! highway miles dont do much for breaking the clutch in.... i know its tempting but you do have one feramic disc which takes longer to break in.... go find the biggest traffic jam and just stop and go

i had to wait 1000 miles! plus prior to that my clutch was slipping so i had to drive super easy and out of boost for over a month. so boring..

Ok so you have a OFE disk.

Best way to break it in is by doing plenty of stop/go traffic driving or you can do very short WOT runs on the fwy at low rpm and low MPH in 5th gear. This will put high load on the clutch and allow you to have more time to react if the clutch does slip. You only need to do this for 2-3 seconds at a time. Doing normal fwy driving for 500-1000 miles isn't going to do anything since your not really using the clutch because it is already clamped down.

Re: Sb Stage 3 Clutch Wear In

So floor it in 5th while going pretty slow?

Everything feels good on it and I've only put 50 miles on it. Must...wait...for.....500 miles....

I wanna go on a "spirited" drive oh so badly XD

    edit:

BTW sorry I didn't get it all thru you, the shop I was working with wanted to make some money I suppose...

Re: Sb Stage 3 Clutch Wear In

Yes you can do it that way. Thats exactly how I broke in my very first WOA clutch back in 2001, even did the break-in within 50 miles and then took it to the drag strip.

They most likely didn't make all that much on the clutch so its cool, it isn't like there is a big wholesale discount on SB clutch kits. What you did end up with is just a standard SB kit though.

Oh wow, nice. I heard 9lbs would be WAYYY too light. Mine at 16lbs has some chatter. How is that?

Haha! Not bad at all actually! Some vibrations upon engagement with the clutch but that's it. I wouldn't have done it any other way!

It will slip at first during break-in, you will know it is broken in when it no longer slips under high load.

Re: Sb Stage 3 Clutch Wear In

I mean I've only taken mine 50 or so miles, and I haven't felt any slipping at all. I'm kinda scared to get on it too much, though. Can not afford another clutch/install :P
