1999 A4 questions

Purchased a 1999 A4 Avant 5 speed and have a few questions.

1-My cruise control doesn't work, where do I start?
2-When I'm driving on the highway and I release the gas pedal I feel a slight jerk in the engine, could it be my motor mounts?
3-Engine idles super smooth and quiet but when I turn the AC on it shakes.

I plan on taking it to my mechanic but just want some info ahead of time. Thanks in advance.

Too funny, I also am in NY and just purchased a '99 A4 Avant 5-spd 1.8TQ, and have the same issues.

1. For the cruise control if you are mechanically inclined, here is the fix - http://www.audiforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57846
I've also heard of rebuilt ones on ebay

2. I notice the same thing but haven't addressed it yet, perhaps the snub mount would help? or engine mount replacement.

3. Mine doesn't shake so much as it makes a lot more noise, again this would be due to either your idle speed or the busted motor mounts.

I have a 99.5 Avant and i do feel the jerk of the engine when you let go of the gas
I have a snub mount and it still happens so it has to me something else

i think the jerk is because the car is drive by cable it does that on mine to in any gear i drove my friends a4 which was drive by wire and i never noticed a jerk

I have upgrade mounts all the way around and it still jerks a bit under hard engine braking.

... learn throttle control?

Check your mounts on the engine and trans. The engine mounts are a dead give away b/c they often leak their insides out. Nasty reddish purple goo. Easy to spot.
Snub mount is definitely a good upgrade that won't effect drivability or ride quality either.
