    What would you do?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am new around here but am a huge audi fan.
I currently am driving an 02 Jeep GC limited with the 265hp H.O. V8 but will be in the market for a new ride this fall.

Now I know I am on an Audi forum so most people will be biased but I am just looking for a little input/experience.

I am either going to go with a 2005 S4 avant (if I can find one) or sedan CPOed

    or

I am also considering keeping my jeep since its only got 75000 miles and I would take a huge hit on it and then get a lotus elise on the side to drive when the weather was nice.

I think the most reasonable thing for me to do now is to get the Audi S4 since it will only be one car to deal with and it will have a warranty. Plus I love the sound of the V8 as well as the power delivery.

On the other hand even a stock lotus is something really special that you don't see everyday but it also makes a much different statement than an S4.

There of course are other options out there such as a 135i maybe.

I'm just not sure a N/A 4 banger is going to do it for me. but the mpg's are nice.

I mean it gets 30 on the hwy and can still do 0-60 in 4.9

Anyways let me know what you guys think.
    Thanks

Depends on your price range! Used S4's are getting CHEAP... But the 135's are fun if you are going to spend a bit more.

I'm a bmw fan and the 135s drive amazing but are Ugly! It may be best to keep the jeep and get the elise, that way when you drive the elise on the weekend its something special, not just driving the daily driver.

Im an Audi fan and hate Bmw. I have an 135I. For the money its amazing(high 12s,big brakes, nice sound). The current audi line up sucks S5 is bloated, S4 is outgoing, RS4 is 94K here compared to 69 for an M3. I will get back to audi this winter however im replacing the jetta with a used audi. If I were you I would change that Jeep for an 1.8T A4 and get a summer car(other than Audi). The only Audi that might interest me in the future are the RS4 and TT-RS the rest not at all. I guess Ill keep collecting vintage Audi's.
By the way Im far from 30 mpg Im more around 15-16.
I've been Audiless for a while but one of my DD will get replaced by an A3.

    Re: What would you do?

my friend was seriously contemplating replacing his 500hp 13mpg GTO for an Elise, equal performance with 3 times better mileage, he then test drove one and realized what I have been saying all along...completely unpractical and uncomfortable.

135i is the ugliest car I have seen, it looks like a 335i on down syndrome, that someone slapped around with a bat.

It looks like you're worries about mpg…hint…don’t buy a V8…if you aint go no money take your broke ass home…lol

get an A4 2.0t...lots of low end torque and great mileage

Great thing about the S4 is that you can drive it all year 'round!

    Plus it looks HOT!

Keep the Jeep AND get an S4. If you can keep the jeep and get the elise, you can do the other. Screw gas prices - we're American, we don't care, right?

    Re: What would you do?

The Elise is totally unpratical as a daily driver. If I bought an expensive car, I'd want to drive it all the time and not just on the weekends. The Jeep would only be used in the winter or to haul stuff.

    Re: What would you do?

    Thanks for all the input.

I actually do not care at all about gas since no matter what car I get it will most likely be better than my jeep (it gets around 18 on the hwy and like 16 in the winter) and I am already used to paying for premium in that hog.

The reason I say I would keep the jeep and get a lotus and not keep the jeep and get the S4 is that first of all I would have no need for the jeep if I had the audi since it is capable of all the things my jeep is minus the curb jumping and tiny bit of offroading I have ever done. Secondly since I would have no need for it the jeep could be sold to pay for some goodies for the S4 such as some ohlins and an exhaust.

My fiancee is pushing me toward the S4 and I think that is what I will end up doing. I guess I will just be waiting around until an Avant comes around since there are very few CPOed ones out there.

I agree that the 135i is not a very attractive car but its performance and potential are undeniable. That being said I had an Eagle Talon TSI that was AWD and I loved not having to worry about the weather and pushing it.

Anyways thanks again for the posts and opinions.

    Re: What would you do?

s4 will get worse gas mileage than the jeep, do not be mislead! I average 10-13 in the city. On the highway on a 600 mile trip I managed to get my average for the trip up to 22... highest I have ever seen in my car and it took all 600 miles to get it there.

    Re: What would you do?

wow, S4's get terrible gas millage, I have driven an E39 M5 for about a week now and I seem to be getting 25mpg on the freeway and around 15-18 in the city but I drive like a granny in that thing just to get it..

To the O.P. it all depends on your use, a 135i is a city driver's car, an S4 avant is a "get shit done wagon", the elise is really just a track car..I would just get an RS4 you can pick em up used for about 56k now anyway, but then again M3's base at that. Theres one at my dealer for 58k but that's a bit of cash.

Actually I take that back. I would sell the Yeep and then get an S4 for the winter and the lotus for some summer fun :)

To be honest I find my car ugly but I dont care pushing close to crank hp, smoking tires shifting from 2nd to 3rd just just makes me smile. I could have gone with the 3er but I didnt want to bother with puting a BBK and so on. People were calling me crazy because I stripped down my A4 (I could drive on a wooden crate and I wouldnt mind. The Elise is ugly too and I like it. I love ugly cars, vintage Audi's are amazing(Quattro Coupe,S1,B5 S4). The S4 is on my list had an A4 and I always wanted that V8 rumble in that small car so I will likely grab one when the B8 S4 come out and prices of the B6 take an other dive. Go drive them all and see what puts a smile on your face because when youll be driving the car you wont even notice what color is the car youre driving(only pedestrians and other drivers will know).

Anyone can drive anything. I know a guy that drives his Lamborghini almost every day. 10K miles this past year and he loves every minute of it.

The 135i is to boy racer for me...
