Hey gang. I'm in Upstate NY. I stumbled across this forum in another ironically enough. I currently have a 95 A6q with 250+ on the odometer. Just figured I'd "stick the hand out" and introduce myself. Now off to poking round for a bit ....

    Re: Introduction...

I got a 1996 A6 Quattro for $3000, because the previous owner didn't properly maintain it. I bought it with the trunk locked shut. The night I picked it up from the preowned dealer, the sun roof poped open when I locked the doors at a gas station. It had a bad right cylinder head gasket. The radiator fan was even rewired incorrectly to run continuously. Both parking brake cables were broken. The right front CV joint boot was broken. The EGR temperature sensor passage was blocked by carbon from using the wrong engine oil. Many other items were broken.
However, it drives really well and the engine and transmission are good for another 100,000 miles. I have a 1998 A6 Quattro wagon, and I never had so many broken things, but then I paid a lot more for a lower mileage vehicle.
I bought another 1998 A6 Quattro wagon for my daughter, and it had many broken items which were cheaply replaced. However, the brake pad wear sensor warning intermittently goes off, so there may be a few broken wires to replace. The pads were already replaced.
These old Audi are much easier to work on, without pulling the front end off for minor maintenance.
