i was wondering if downpipes would make the check engin light come on.

Only if the cat is removed. If you have software that is made to ignore the rear 02 sensor than all is good, no cel no matter what

APR has a hi flow cat file, which doesn't throw the cel on. Depending if you have software, the shop may reflash it for a small charge.
