anybody do this? seems like a great way to learn how to handle a car on dirt well enough to make the transition to full on rally much easier, not to mention the people you'd meet with similar interests (every drive needs a co driver), and it's cheap when compared a lot of motorsports. all you need in the entry level is a helmet and a fwd beater which if chosen properly can also transition to rally w/ a cage and some mods. of course if you're cheap enough you could also race it in the 24 hrs of lemons...

I do!!! Rally cross is cheap and a blast. We did it for a year while we were building our rally car before we started doing stage rally. My 2 cents are this... buy an audi 4000 a helmet and 4 dirt/mud rally tires (tyres in the rally community). Best fun to price ratio by far. Once you get good at driving you can mop up the goof ball that just drove his STI of the floor and is testing his "rally" skills. Getting a better time than a new STI with a 25 year old car can put a smile on anyones face.

    Re: rally-x

My co-driver and I built a 01 A4 into a rallyx. It was gutted and got S4 springs and bilsteins and a K04. It now weighs less then 2800 lbs and has ton of mid range power. This year I won the SCCA New England region M4 championship. We attended the national championship in Nashville in october. The trans broke on day one while we were in 2nd and 3rd place. It set ftd before breaking. Trans was replaced last week and won another regional event. The car puts the fear in all the rice at the events. Warren Elliott aka Lord of the Rings
