    - which pulleys? why fix it if it ain't broke

    2. Who has the best kit right now
    - www.mjmautohaus.com and www.ecstuning.com

    3. can my engine handle k04 after this second timing change
    - if your engine is healthy then why not (it's weak sauce and need other mods to make it work right)

    4. Is there a 200km service
    - timing belt and whatever is broken i guess

    5. Can i do this my self having no major mechanic knowledge
    - if you know how to use tools and know how to search this website then you can try

im also getting these things done aswell:

Combi vavle easy, back of the head
stock cat to HFC pain the *** job
trying to solve evap problem good luck

but is there anything else i should change while im getting this done, thnx

Re: Second timing belt job approaching need some more audi advice

While you're in there I would replace the pulleys. Water pump and T-Stat isn't a bad idea either. It's a lot cheaper to spend the cash once, than have to do it again. Even more expensive if one of the components causes the belt to break.

Doing the job is pretty straight forward, but if you don't think you can do it, just ante up the bills. Where are you in Canada? I'm sure there's somebody along the border that could help you out.

As long as your compression is still fine, the car should be able the K04 without any issues. Obviously the correct MAF, injectors, and tuning should be in place as well.

Re: Second timing belt job approaching need some more audi advice

did my timing belt at 148 km and then went K04 @ 160. You're 99% fine. Just make sure there's no sludge, and you should be fine. I totally agree with everyone else here. Timing Belt, Tensioner, Water Pump (or entire water pump), you can do the pulleys, but that's a judgement call. I'd do the snub mount if I knew I was going to be upgrading the other mounts soon. I've heard bad things about upgrading the snub without doing the engine/tranny/diff mounts. It's an easy job. Out of caution, get a 12pt socket....forget what size, just in case you need to move the crankshaft. If you're in the GTA, I could probably give you a hand, but it depends when. My first one took about 8 hrs.

Oh....you need G12 coolant and distilled water too!

Re: Second timing belt job approaching need some more audi advice

My first time took about 8 hours, but now i'm fairly confident I can go from parked to completely done/tools cleaned up in just a tad under 3 hours.

    Couple hints...

go with a good, OEM water pump. I got some cheapo replacement at pep boys and it wouldn't fit properly, even after grinding down some parts to get it to fit.

Easiest way to deal with the belt is to make 2 marks using white out or somethign similar on the old belt; make the mark starting at the edge of the belt's side and then all the way onto the sprocket (both the upper camshaft one as well as the crank sprocket). Then, just make the same marks the same number of teeth apart on your new belt and match them up with the marks on the sprockets.

Before turning the car on, turn the crank 3-4 times over by hand to make sure everything's in properly and no valve-piston contact will be occuring.

watch the tension on the AC condensor when you put it back. The first time I didn't tension it down hard enough, and when the AC was on I got a serious vibration through the entire cabin.

the right tools make a huge difference. I wouldn't try to remove the bolts holding on the crankshaft accessory pulley with anything other than a hex key socket set - anything else runs the risk of stripping them out.

You'll need a universal joint neck to remove one of the bolts holding on the timing belt cover.

make sure everything is plugged back in (horns, AC unit, etc) before putting the bumper back on - some stuff is a bitch to reach once it's on.

Other than that, it's a real simple and straightforward job. Just take your time and don't rush anything.

What? What problems, I have density mounts all around for lots of miles w/o any issues.

Re: Second timing belt job approaching need some more audi advice

I got the kit of ECS tuning which provides everything you could possibly need. Came with a new water pump, coolant ETC. Was approx $260. DIY saves you HUNDREDS!

The guy I have doing it is really experienced, he's done one on a civic and a VR6 jetta, regardless, I wanna bring some info with me. Are there any detailed DIY write ups for TB changes on here?

^ A civic takes an hour to do and a VR6 does not have a timing belt so watch this guy (does not sound like much experience). There are write ups here and on AudiWorld tech articles.

I did my 2nd TB a yr and a half ago, and just did the normal replacements.....wp, all related belts, vacuum lines.....and snub mount (since my first APR one was annihilated). I'm quickly approaching my 3rd timing belt replacement, come to think of it.
