    Seafoam or whatelse?

So after getting the car fixed 100% and getting the alignment done I ran across another little problem. On my way back from the alignment shop my wife said she noticed white smoke coming from my tail pipe. After I looked in my rear view mirror I noticed it as well along with slight blips/ hesitations in the throttle response, but here is the puzzling part ....... it would come and go

After talking with a few people from my local German automotive shops, they seem to think that I may have condensation buildup (water) in my gas tank from the car sitting for so long and my gas light did come on, on the way home so I am at the bottom of the tank. One suggestion was to poor Seafoam in the gas tank to remove the moisture and I know this will work as that's one of the things it was designed for, (and it says it on the bottle )

Does anyone know of another additive that will do the same thing or is this my best option? This seems the most logical reason for the smoke as the car has not been driven so I doubt I blew a head gasket or whatever else can cause this problem. Seafoam also says it is to be used for the storage of cars so I assume this is a common problem if a car sits for to long.

Any other input would be appreciated.

Well since I am on E, I was going to pour in the Seafoam at the gas station and then fill up the tank so that I get a good mix. Is that the correct way or should I fill up first and then pour in the Seafoam? The bottle says it will treat 8-25 gallons so at 15 gallons I am kind of i the middle but still at the stronger side of the dilution. I think it will be ok. The bottle says the results should be instantaneous, but does anyone know how long the white smoke from the Seafoam will last or is that only when it is applied to the crank case which I will be doing as well when I near the end of my oil changing cycle?

I don't think it's the turbo since the smoke is white and not a darker color although I have thought about that. The car itself has performed well the few time I took it around the neighborhood in regards to spool and response but I have never had a bad turbo before so I don't know what the symptoms would feel like. I have heard of people still getting a good response from a bad turbo but I just hope this is not the case.

i would try and seafoam it, its also possible that it could just be bad gas aso, or it went bad while the car was sitting.

The car should smoke little if at all if you're only putting it in your gas tank. You get the big flumes of smoke from running it through your intake manifold.

That is not always true. When my K04's bearing seals blew, there was a ton of white smoke.

I'm not saying that you have a blown turbo, im just saying don't rule that out just because its not dark smoke.

As for the origional topic, seafoam it. I've used it several times on a bmw, and only really saw smoke when we sucked it into a vacuum line. You should see little if any from the gas tank.

Pour it in before you fill up. That way it mixes it up.

    Good luck!

    Re: Seafoam or whatelse?

what ever happened to using drygas? Make sure you're using seafoam in the proper mixtures. Anything more potent than recommended, can (I didn't say will) actually have adverse effects.

You may solve the problem just by filling it with new fuel.

Oh, and check the vac line that goes to your fuel press regulator. I've seen those pop off more than once and do similar things.

    Re: Seafoam or whatelse?

try Heet, it's an additive like seafoam
but it's used to remove moisture from the gas tank or helping your car run better during cold weather
