Re: how much did you pay for your painted lowers??

You can buy the aerosol cans, you will need 3 cans, 1 adhesion promoter, base coat and the clear. I paid ~ $50, here: . It really easy to do.

You will need all three of the above, a sheet of 1500 grit sand paper, rubbing compound and polishing compound (I got my from Wally World for $5.99 each, rubbing compound is 3M and the polishing compound is Turtle Wax).

Sand the pieces to remove any coatings, etc. Wash them in cold water using dish washing detergent, to get out the oils, wax and sand paper residue. Spray on the adhesion promoter. One medium coat. Wait 15 minutes. Spray the base coat, I used 4 coats, wait 5 minutes between coats. Wait 30 minutes. Then spray on the clear coat. I used 4 coats as well, wait 5 minutes between coats. Let it dry overnight. Apply the rubbing compound, then the polishing compound. Install.

Re: how much did you pay for your painted lowers??

One millllliion dollars (dr evil voice)

I went to a local audi repair shop with my last car and they tried to jip me real bad. said i needed new side skirts and new front bumper because of the rock chips.. i was like wtf are you talking about all i want to know is how much to get these pieces painted. he said we can't spray them like that (trust me they were not bad at all) so i said whatever give me the estimate for everything, i think it was close to $2k.

seeing as how that doesn't answer your question really I'll give you another answer. When I did look into getting my lowers painted I searched and found most people paid around $200 per piece. so you're guestimate of $800 is a good starting point.

figure $200 for both front pieces, $200 for rear (its one piece, will most likely be completely resprayed), and about $125 for each side skirt. So I'd say around $6-800 not including uninstall and installation if you don't know how to do that..

you're best bet is to just go to local spray shops and certified audi collision centers and get several estimates. I wouldn't reccommend doing it yourself unless you have all the "proper tools and steady hands to pull off a procedure like that" .

we done a couple cars we usually charge between $550-$695 depending on condition of the lowers and we get our paint and work done at a benz dealer so above that is a bit steep :)

    Yeah I probably got ripped.

1000 or so for new rockers covers + Paint and s4 blades refinished and painted (I already had the blades) (shop did all remove and install)
225 for real lower panited (I removed and installed)

I bought an usp front off the forums already color matched.

Re: how much did you pay for your painted lowers??

I recently had my car done. Did the skirts, front (USP) and rear valence, my steering column covers, and had the tails smoked. I took the parts off and put them back on (except for the rear valence, which I couldn't figure out). Paid $1000 for everything, which included some dent removal and wet sanding.

That's an average price for where I am in D.C., assuming a reputable body shop. You can pay a lot less of course...but you often get what you pay for.

You need several coats to match that of your car. It makes it more resistant to road rash and chips too.

All the paint prep can be bought (Made by) duplicolor, except the actual color paint color of your car. You should search online for color-code matching touch up paint that is sold in a spray can, instead of just using duplicolor black(or whatever your car color is). I found some for my brilliant black. This website may or may not have it for other color codes: http://www.brandsport.com/plik-5200-ly9b.html

Nothing wrong with a DIY paint job for your car parts - it just has to be done right. If you do it I highly suggest you follow Shi-fu-jay's write up(1st link), except dont use the duplicolor actual paint color, use the spray can touch up that is the same color code (2nd link, or your searched google results). And lastly, be happy that you saved a shitload of money on a nice DIY paint job!

Depending on the color I would NOT reccommend the DIY due to that almost every paint code has several variants so even if you have someone who knows what they are doing mix the paint with the code it may still not come out right, silvers and other metallics especially

Re: how much did you pay for your painted lowers??

The front has one push pin clip on both sides that attach the valance to the splashshields and then it has one flat head screw on the bottom attached to the lower engine splashshield and two more torx screws where the fog openings are once you have removed the fog grilles the rest is just clipped in. It comes off in just a matter of mins. as for the rear it is one piece and cannot be removed unless you take off the entire rear bumper cover
