I'm assuming TFSI and TSI are the same thing? My engine cover says TFSI. How do I find out for sure which motor I have?

I found this so I know the differences between FSI and TSI but nothing outlines exactly how to tell what you have. Someone even said Audi/VW have been messing around with correctly badging the vehicles on the engine cover so we cant go by that alone.

an easy way to check is to pop open your hood.
if it looks like mine (2nd half of 2008 production) with the oil filter on the top, you've got the TSI.

what is the expected powertrain loss? 20%ish?

I havent taken the engine cover off yet. Car's too new (190 miles) for me to start picking sutff appart but the engine bay is identicle to yours. I read that if it was built march 2008 its a TSI motor. I cant figure out how mine was built. The stickers and markings are all different than how the Japanese cars have them.

Prolly closer to 10-15% due to it being front wheel drive vs awd and the drive wheels being so close to the motor..

Chris@Revo said it best in the vortex thread with regard to the "differences"...

Balance shafts in the center of the block in either side.

Fuel pump driven off a 4 lobe exhaust cam

    new engine management

    and a few other things.

It is is a 2L 16V direct injection engine.

VW/Audi have been mixing up the fsi, tfsi and tsi badging lately, you can't simply just go by that any longer.
