Show me your BIG, round, pointy, sweeping................. Gauges.

Just curius if there were any creative little gauge installs. I am about to install a Autometer oil pressure gauge and just wanted to see what my options were.

I ordered a cheapie 52mm pod cup mount for $12.99 shipped and was thinking of mounting it on the steering column. Then I got to thinking maybe there was some better options out there.(http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=270271541012)

Its a 2.8 DD so nothing insane, and yes I know about the AC vent mount. Its not my tastes though.

    Keep wrenching.

If you want to mount it on the steering column, get one of these... theyre prettier and not too expensive either`:

Snap, how much is it on ebay? Too rich for my blood, I figure the cup mounted tight on the factory column should work and look just as good and save me $67.01 dollars :)

45.00$ shipped... ok It's a little more expensive then your 12$ but I think the 30 bucks difference is worth it

Does this count? .. they don't make a double column pod yet for the B5, so I DIY'd it.

    Thats the idea!

Where did you get the pods? How much were they? How did you mount them firmly? What gauges are those?

Just to let you know... the pod in the eBay link (which is a ripoff of my design) and the pods that I make are not the same thing at all.

I make a pod that replaces your OEM steering column vs. a stick on piece that requires you to cut the OEM cover to run the lines.

Those are the $15 black pods from Summit Racing, the gauges are Stewart Warner Maximum performance (black with "alum" trim ring).
Cheaper than VDO's and look almost identical to stock gauges.

I pulled off the upper column cover and measured everything out so that I could still see the ambient temp screen and most of the Tach. I did have to sacrifice 0-30mph and anything >6700rpm as far as visibility goes. I used the supplied hardware with the gauge cups and I haven't had an issue with them yet. Word to the wise, if you have any of the corrugated plastic tube stuff (I forget the name) that comes with amp install kits, use that to route your boost line and wires through. It looks better than a couple wires wrapped in electrical tape.

Eventually I will move the oil pressure gauge down into a panel where the ashtray was (like the old school 90CS Quattro's and Coupe Quattro). The other gauges I will install are a wideband, fuel pressure and EGT. The EGT will replace the oil press on the column and the fuel pressure will go down in the panel in place of the ashtray. The wideband won't match any of the other gauges, so it will go in the most left vent hole.

When did seeing the boost or oil pressure become more important then seeing rpms above 5k? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Oh, would have still made more sense to mount it dead center so it just covered up only the center screen.
