last night i had an intercooler hose pop off i was only going about 20-30 mph started accelerating and it went.. anyways.. i reconnected the pipe.. but now on startup the RPMS climb to 2k.. and it almost feels like they want to keep climbing.. then i hit the pedal and it settles down to 800.. anyone know what could cause this?

thats high for sure... im not sure why it would be affected after you blowing off a IC pipe though.... does it keep doing it? if so there are settings in VAG you can change your idle offset or whatever its called and it can be raised/lowered.

I have no clue but i'll shoot at it anyways. Does it still do that? I would try doing a throttle adaptation with the VAGCOM. maybe that will help

Why do our cars normally rev/idle a bit high (and then drop) when started cold? Is it just to get oil flowing?

This is normal for all cars. Ive never driven one that doesnt. It just makes sure that the car starts on the first try ex (getting enough fuel flowing ect).
