    coil pack, CPO and mods

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
anyone got any experience of the dealership replacing coil packs (yes it happened to me today...) on a modded CPO car?

I have the AWE GT28R kit and a bunch of other stuff that screams modded & given that coil packs are not expensive or difficult to replace should I just do them myself or will the dealership cough up?

    Paul.

Re: coil pack, CPO and mods

Ok.. dealer now changing its tune - called ahead (in the interest of full disclosure) and got the "if its chipped then that voids your warranty" mantra. Left a message for the Service Manager to see if his view is different than one of the wrenchmonkeys.

If they are going to be uncooporative then maybe I go the Hitachi route - where do I get them from?

    **EDIT**

I searched and saw reference to them at ECS but can't see them on their site. I guess I'll pick up a couple at the dealership (if they won't honor the warranty) and then order up some Hitachis once I can source them...

Funny, some dealer's service advisors are OK. Some are not. My service advisor @ Audi of Willow Grove actually hooked me up with AWE back in january when I bought my Audi
This should be a good indication of how warranty claims are going to be handled in the future by that particular dealer for you.
Find another one if you can or call around.

If they're balking at it being chipped, they're gonna have you arrested when they see the GT28R =)

yeah it depends on which service advisor you get. mine is great. however if you're cpo'd, you have to pay $50 for each visit. i had audi replace 3 of mine on 3 seperate occassions, $50 each so the total cost would've been cheaper to just buy a set and do it yourself.

My experience so far of the 3 or 4 dealers within a reasonable distance of Manhattan has been pretty mixed. The guys I'm currently using were great the last 2 times, now the car is modded they are putting up some walls.
When the advisor said "chipped" I mentioned the mods I'd had done and he reverted to the "if its been chipped.." mantra which lead me to believe he had no idea what a GT28 is...

Very good point - I forgot about the $50 CPO charge. I think I'll likely go with my plan of buying a set from them (or VW if its cheaper) and then getting a Hitachi set to use in the future when the inevitable happens again...
