what oil do you like

what Oil do you guys use, for 2.7T's? i have been putting 10W-30 full synthetic , but the guy at my local independent shop said they use 5W-40??? so let me know what you guys like, thanks.

i'm putting in 10-30 cuz cosco has it on sale, 6 pack for 30bucks. i'll get 0-40 if i can find it.. i heard it's good for NYC weather, as it gets hot when it's summer, ice cold when winter..

The factory fill on our cars was 5W30 but, due to the oil sludge issue that Audi had on the 1.8T, they made the revised oil recommendations in 2005 requesting a minimum of a 5W40 on their engines. Audi's factory litterature explains that a 5W30 was fine for use but, for better fuel mileage, 0W30 was recommended. The change to 5W40 was so that your oil could handle the extra heat inside the turbo's CHRA which will easily bake motor oil if not cooled properly.

Taking the two guidelines for fuel economy and heat resistance and using them together = 0W40.

As of 2006 Mobil1 0W40 was added to the VW.502.00 oil spec. I'm still very surprised that I don't see other 0W40 oils out there. Most places seem to carry 5W30 but, not 0W40. You may have to shop around a bit to find it.

Last Oil change I used Mobil 1 0w-30. I have never seen a 0w-40 European Blend. Where did you get it from and how much was it??

I was using Mobil1 0-40 for a couple years and recently tried another Synthetic but got factory 5-30... it seems to have introduced an oil leak

I'm going to go back to 0-40 this weekend, hopefully it helps

my mechanic says it too thin
but I will still use it

What oils do Audi dealers use, probably Castrol 5W-30 or 5W-40, right? Should I change to a 0W-40 or 0W-30 oil now that winter is here, or is 5W-xx fine in NY/NJ winters?

that's what I use too.

I was noticing that my Mobil1 0w40 was starting to disapear after 3-4K miles. I recently switched to the German Castol. So far so good. The motor seems quieter and this oil seems to stay cleaner than the Mobil1.

Time will tell the truth though...

I use Motul X-Cess 8100 5w40. I change it every 3,000 miles. I hear that Lubro Moly - Voll-Synthese oil is very good. You can go up to 5,000 before the oil is broken down. Mobil 1 and Royal Purple are horrible. They brake down to fast. Also AMS oil make a European car oil 5w40. Redline also has a 5w40.
