Due to so many mixed results from searching, i need someone to lay it down for me here. I have a 2001 A4 1.8T and i am doing an aeb head swap on my awm block. I have swapped over my vvt tensioner, awm cam gear, and awm cam position sensor. My question is, is there anything else that i should have swapped over, i.e cam sprockets, cams, etc. Some people were saying that you need the awm cam window, others were saying that it didnt make a difference. And also i have heard that i need my cams/or intake cam at least because they are different. So anyone who can help me out please let me know. Thanks

One other question is what head bolts to? Do they need to be cut down if we use the 10mmx1.5x115 head bolt? Is it best to use the aeb intake mani and will our throttle body bolt up without issues? Thanks in advance.

You use the same ones you use on your stock head, so a new set of stock head bolts or a set of aftermarket bolts/studs.

It is best to use a AEB intake manifold, but unless your making huge power its not going to make a big difference. If you use the stock IM you can use a transition gasket that 034 offers.

You need to swap over the cam windows also. AEB has a 1-window, and AWM is 4-window if I remember correctly. Hello cam-sync error heaven!

You could swap them over, but there most likely isn't much difference between them. Not sure if there is a difference between the cam pulley on the front.

yeah I just did some research on the windows and now I see what they mean by it. As far as the cams I should be ok with the AEB ones in there? Im gonna keep looking to see what I find. Thanks for the input bro I really appreciate it. I wanna send the head off to get cleand and cut so I can try to put this thing together for the weekend.

Did this ever work out for you? I have an 01.5 AWM im swapping a AEB head into. What all did you end up swapping and was it worth it? Cam windows? I have both IM's but would prefer to install the larger matching AEB manifold. I also have the tt225 short injectors and some longer 430/440's. Would I need some spacers or new seats in the IM to fit them?

The cams should be pretty much the same, so if you keep the AEB cams in the head just make sure to swap the front cam pulley and put the one on from your old head.

If you have all the parts the best thing to do is just to swap them over and see what you need to do to make it work.

You could always just start by installing the AEB intake manifold and see how the injectors work out before installing the AEB head.

Hey man, Yeah it worked out great! Alls I did was like M-hood said above. Swap over your timing pulley stud and all, and the cam gear from your old head. timig marks and all will still be the same. drops right in. As far as the injectors go you shouldnt have an issue dropping them in, but you will more than likely have to use a spacer. Im running 380cc siemenns in mine and they worked out fine into the AEB mani. everything bolts right up, but I think if I recall correctly there is like one less maybe two vaccum ports. Thats not a big deal though, and should be easy to figure out. GL with the job man!

The front cam pully is different. On the AEB head it sits closer to the head I think and the belt hangs off the cam about a 1/4 inch. NO BUENO. LOL! Must change it for the awm one.

Yes I know that, which is why tell people they need to swap their old cam pulley when they swap heads. The offset is different which means the belt wont line up if you are using the wrong cam pulley.

Look at post #16 of mine which is from Today. lol
