JHM Weighted Shift Knobs - COMING SOON! - (Aluminum and Black Delrin)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Coming Soon! JHM Weighted Shift Knobs for B6 and B7 Audis with clamp on knobs.

We currently make screw on knobs for the older Audi Platforms. So we are hoping to guage interest in these knobs for the B6/B7 A4, S4 and RS4 platforms. We have plans finalized and should have these available within the next 4 weeks or so.

Why a weighted shift knob?? Makes shifting easier and smoother due to the inertia. Once the knob starts moving forward or backward to shift the weight of the knob has momentum and helps you hit the gear more consistently.

Check the existing screw on models out in our new store HERE--> http://www.jhmotorsports.com/shop/ca...h=21_56_60_156

We make them in both Aluminum and Black Delrin. Our New site is about 90% populated but is fully functional. Feel free to browse and place orders.

All this information is on the site, but here are some options we are making available for your cars as well:

Aluminum vs. Black Delrin®: Aluminum can get hot to the touch in hot or warm temps. Knurling makes it feel less hot to the touch. So this is where Black Delrin® comes in. Delrin® stays a lot cooler than Aluminum does, even though it is black in color. So if you are up in the air about the type of knob you want and are not purely not picking one style due to its looks, then consider these differences.

    Thanks guys!

I love your stuff but do you really think that any RS4 owner is going to switch out their beautiful knob for one of these?

Sure they could've made it "prettier" but the whole point of these is function not looks. I won't be buying one but huge for creativity and creating products that you can't hardly find anywhere else.

    Thanks.

Here's a better side view of the shape of it. We need to get some better pictures up.

only thing is... the S4/RS4 boot is attatched to the shifter, are these going to be included with a leather boot?

how about the traditional good ole round ball know like we have now but maybe titanium??? with S4 etched in or something. That shape isnt very appealing. Reminds me of the stuff people put into integras.

And you guys could do custom boots with different stiching and stuff too.....those would clean house!!!

I don't think many will. But like many products, it is generally a matter of preference just like a set of wheels for example. Some people buy a certain wheel solely for looks and another may buy for low cost while another buys for weight and rigidity. To each their own, we can't please everyone.

Don't worry man we have already figured this out. The boot is easily separated from the knob (just 2 pieces of plastic snapped together) and we already have a design that will tuck the boot neatly and securely under the knob with a nice and snug finish.

The big problem with the putting an S4 in there is that it cannot resemble the Audi designed S4 logo. It would have to have a generic font. We don't want to worry about trademark or copyright issues.

If we find a good a reputable local interior shop to work with to wrap knobs we could look into it down the road. This is a product built primarily for performance and with more and more feedback we can adjust as necessary.

We can make them out of any material, we suggest that people email us for custom quotes with the current screw on ones and will do the same for these.

Yeah. When it comes to benefiting yourself it sucks, but when it comes to making your own stuff it isn't.

It would be nice though to make a knob with the S4 logo. But I doubt I would ever be able to navigate to Audi HQ to get the answer to how much I would have to pay them per knob not being a HUGE company and all.

I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Re: JHM Weighted Shift Knobs - COMING SOON! - (Aluminum and Black Delrin)

Been very busy with the screw on knobs. But we did have time to cut out the blank for the push on knob style. It basically has a longer bottom skirt than the B5 knob.

We plan on making more progress tonight.

    Here's a teaser:

Here's a few pictures of the final product of the screw on knobs:

Re: JHM Weighted Shift Knobs - COMING SOON! - (Aluminum and Black Delrin)

    UPDATE!!:

The prototype is DONE. Here are some (crappy) pictures.

Here is the bottom end of the shifter knob. It goes through leather and we use a specialized delrin piece to squish the leather to the knob securely.

Yes it has set screws, but they are placed very strategically. They land right on the con-cave radius of the shifter shaft. These set screws serve two purposes, to secure the knob to the shaft and to hold up the delrin piece.

This knob is a lot heavier than our screw on style - the weighted steel is twice as long. Pricing and more information coming soon.

    Stay tuned.

Re: JHM Weighted Shift Knobs - COMING SOON! - (Aluminum and Black Delrin)

I disagree - I think these look great, much more sporty than OEM. Also, have you seen our OEM S4 shift knobs?? It's all personal opinion, but I think they look cheesy. Alot of it also depends on your interior trim. If you have the CF any of these would look great. If you have the wood... No shift knob will look perfect with that unless it's a wood shift knob LOL... So alot depends on your interior imho.

There are enough options on these that I'm sure there is at least one that looks decent/appealing to you. Aluminum would look pretty (see post #5) cool, but I've had a weighted delrin knob on a past car and I know I love them so that's the route I went. Mainly due to the fact we have extreme hot and cold here where I live and an aluminum knob sucks for winter/summer (again - totally personal preference, most love aluminum knobs).

PS - I'm sure a custom knob is possible for a higher price. Contact him to find out.

from a design standpoint, i would increase the whitespace between the gear #s and the shift pattern ;) not sure how difficult it is to edit your machine file

Understandable. On some cars it may be a visual down grade. In time we may have more options if we ever get a good interior shop we can trust to help with wrappings. Until then I guess it is just not for you.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Quite possibly. I think the A3 has a cable linkage like TTs and Jettas. Those cars have clamp on knobs.

I was going to try it out on a Jetta soon and then look into trying an A3 as well.

If you want, you can email me a pic of your shifter with the boot pulled up so I can see how it mounts.

If you are really serious, if you took the knob off and got pics and measurements then I can give you a 100% answer. If it is like the Jettas and TTs I really think so.

Once we figure it out for sure we will announce this.

    Thanks.

Little too much detail I think. Lines would collide.

We can probably work something out. We should be test fitting a Jetta soon. So email me at [email protected] and I will notify you when we know it fits that car. If it does I will feel better about having you help out.

    Thanks.
