    Torn DV-->AWE DV Kit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
55 days after getting GIAC I've finally got a tear. Can't exactly pin-point the moment, but the first time I noticed was at about 135 in 5th at WOT when I saw the boost gauge go crazy out the corner of my eye.

Boost now will peak to about 14psi and drop to 9 and hold. It will not push past 9 in stock mode. Pulled the DV out tonight just to make sure. AWE DV kit goes in on tuesday.

    UPDATE:
AWE Kit installed this evening. As always with AWE, everything you need is included (minus a few zip ties). After a little re-tubing of my boost gauge, the DV was installed and ready to go. It does exactly as advertised--held 23 psi at peak and it's great to have the boost back.

However, if you're looking for sick awesome!!! sounds, buy a Forge blow-off I can't really tell with such a loud AWE catback on, but it really doesn't sound that different.

Overall, highly suggested as a permanent fix for half the price of forge!

    Re: Torn DV...finally

^^ I figured it would go out at some point, I was eager to try out the AWE fix anyways.

Really this was meant to help out anybody who may be noticing a drop in boost but didn't experience that 'flutter' sound or whistle. There was no audible sign for me, throughout the rev range, my only indicator was the butt dyno and boost gauge. It seems like there are a lot of different symptoms to a torn DV that you may, or may not get.

I think that the Dv is probably the weakest part on our cars

    Re: Torn DV...finally

I know I'm going to sound like a Newb when I ask this but where the hell is the DV located? I looked at my engine bay and couldn't really find it. Someone just told me that it was under the bellypan, so does that mean I actually need to jack up my car?

    Re: Torn DV...finally

so were you trying to tear it - by that I mean do you drive aggressively often? I am trying to gauge the big day too. But I prolly see redline once a month tops. I just like the usable torque in everyday driving.

Check the sticky on the main B7 page, it shows you where it is located. I had APR for about 30 days or so before I slammed my DV. It just felt like the power trailed off day to day.

Ditto. I'm just going to get another OEM valve though. I can buy three of them before it adds up to an aftermarket valve, without the latency of a mechanical valve.

    Re: Torn DV...finally

would anyone happen to have a diy for the dv removal/install? seems relatively simple as its only 3 bolts and a plug but im not very mechanically inclined =T

    Re: Torn DV...finally

There's no DIY to my knowledge. There's the Forge DV write-up, but it doesn't install in the same location.

Take the belly pan off, it's a few metal and plastic screws. It's hard to put back on the first time, but nothing taking your time won't solve. After it's off, just look straight up at the silver part of the turbine, and you should see the valve hanging from it like a leech, haha. I've never done it either, but this is what i've gathered. I don't know what you need to get it off the housing.

Yeah this whole DV may or may not be broken deal sucks. I wish I could know for sure without getting a gauge and tipping my dealer off completely.

Hey, I have a gauge and I'm stock! I'll probably chip eventually, but it's cool just to see the actual throttle response... so having a gauge doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Thats true, but I would guess the majority of gauge installs are on chipped/modded cars

The only problem with that, is if you keep going back for the warranty work, they will know you are chipped, because the stock DV is made to withstand the lower boost, but the higher boost is what cracks it. I had my first one replaced with an OEM and my Service Tech told me to order the aftermarket asap seeing as I would just keep blowing them and Audi would catch on that something is amiss. I blew mine within a week of the APR 93 chip.

to correct you... people who are bone stock have ripped DVs and PCVs as well, so it's not just people who are chipped. But I don't deny them speeding up the process of DVs dying.
