    Dealers and how they fail

My buddy wants to get an S4 cab and we found one for $66,000 and well we went to Penske after Beverly Hills Audi which had quoted us 5k down 12k a year 36months and 813.46 a month tax and all included and we spoke to Nick at Penske and said if he beats it we'll take it. The guy comes back saying best i can do is 954.13 a month. So instead i called Pacific Audi and we ended up getting a quote for $785 a month guaranteed tax, license, everything included. that's one hella gap between Penske and Pacific. Service sure is great at Penske but sales is not. deffinately not like Longo which does give the best deals.

Pacific got me the best price on my S4...I dealt with 4 dealers in getting the best price...Penske was not one of them.

Penske really isnt known for their insane deals though, their about customer service being #1 and somewhat mod friendly unlike 99% of the other dealerships. What they lack in prices, they usually make up in everything else.

leasing is very subjective to what programs are available and what programs the rep assumes the lessee will qualify for, see whose selling price is best. I bet it's not that far off.

Well, there could have been more to the story than what was disclosed to you.

I'm just saying don't state how a dealership "fails" because they give you a higher quote. There could have been dealer incentives on the car at pacific because it's been in inventory longer or whatever the case may be.

Be thankful that you can still shop around and find a better deal. I know first hand that Penske has made great deals to plenty of other people and that you can't make the case that their sales "as a whole" isn't good because of your one experience.

God only knows that the days of being able to "shop" other dealers will be coming to a close. Take advantage while you can.

I can't speak on any the logistics of any particular sales deals -- but one thing I've picked up in my experience in the automotive industry is that price isn't always everything. And yes, there are other factors that came into play, such as availability of the car, etc. Common sense tells one to go after the better deal, but to air your frustrations because you didn't get the price you wanted from a particular sales person makes the dealership a "failure"? Well I guess even "failing" establishments can still provide sponsorships and support to both the enthusiast community as well as forums like these, not to mention the last two major Euro car gatherings/shows. (Eurocrave & Dubfest). I guess it really shows you can't make everyone happy, can you?

Sorry to hear we couldn't make the deal happen -- but good luck to your friend in finding the best deal on the car he's looking for.

NO NO NO Jason not the dealer as a whole, i meant the deals they were giving, i drove 45 mins to go out there, and service rocks, ask the salesman that's all i talked about, but anyways the deals they were giving were ridiculous. Anyways instead he's getting a CLK550 I love what u guys do and how u treat customers we are long time Longo customers and Penske dealerships are by far the best in customer care, but for some reason Rusnak and Penske don't give great deals.

Re: Dealers and how they fail

I think dealers are looking even more to deal right now since sales are down so much. When I went to buy the wife's car, I sent a letter to 10 dealerships, in CA, NV, and AZ, stating what I was looking for with what options, and color, and give me your best deal. Lucky for me, it was Crown Lexus, which was only 30 miles away, and the spread on the 10 differnt dealerships were pretty large, and could have been for many different reasons, maybe they gave an agressive number, since I am close and will do my service work there, who knows, but a car that has a MSPR of $74,585, I had several that offered $2000-$3000 over MSRP, because at the time inventory was scarse, but at the end of the day, I got what I wanted, and below MSRP, it ended up being $500 over inventory, $68K and some change...do your homework, and negociate, if he has the FICO you say, then dealers jump through hoops for those shoppers.

    Good Luck!!!

Re: Dealers and how they fail

I just went through another new car Audi shopping experience and dealt with Penske in the process. From the approximate 6 dealers I spoke with, Penske was one of the ones most willing to work with me. I ultimately purchased from Walters because it turned out they had the actual vehicle the other dealers were trying to get for me. I will also mention that Mission Viejo Audi was really trying to get my business as well--I actually got an S4 from them in the past because they were aggressive about beating competitor prices.

As an aside, $66k for a S4 cab!!! There are dealers knocking $10k right off the bat on RS4s...roll with the windows down and a/c on to replicate the "wind in the hair" experience as best as you can and enjoy the extra power!

You're right, my bad for posting without calculating the numbers, but since you didn't include interest rate, his/her SSN so I could run his/her credit myself, and his/her debt/income ratio, I could not do the calculations myself and instead based my post on the $66k number you mentioned
