4k oil change, good and bad news for me.

The car hit 4k on the odo so it was time for it's 2nd oil change. The good news is that 9 full quarts came out of the car. I was able to fill up 9 empty bottles of motul with the old oil.

Now to the bad news. When I took the belly pan off there was oily wax-like drippings on both sides of the belly pan. So I got out my light to hunt down the source and it appears that my DRC is leaking from both front shocks. Knowing Audi, they're probably leaking from the rear as well. It's not that upsetting as I knew that it was coming. I just didn't expect it so soon.

So now I am going to make an appointment at Penske to get it fixed. I am wondering if I could , since they are a Stasis dealer, have them install the motorsports for free instead of replacing the stockers. There is about the same amount of work involved and they deal directly with Stasis. I don't really want to spend the money on a new set of coilovers but I also don't want to take the car back over and over again for leaking suspension. I'm gonna pitch it to them. The'll still make money on the sale of the coilovers as I am sure that they get dealer cost.

What Karim said. It's pretty much hoses that connect the shocks together to transfer fluid to and from each caddy corner shock. It's supposed to keep the car level on turns, flat when you stab the gas and it also prevents the car from nose diving during braking. What is does best is leak.

Stealership's answer will probably be no if your car is a lease. It'll probably be no if it isn't either. Never hurt to try though, and that is a creative proposal.

spoke with them today any car is going in next thursday. Made the proposal over the phone and will discuss it next week.

I know that it's a slim chance, but to me it seems like a win win situation. Penske gets paid by AOA for warranty work on the suspension and instead of tossing the stockers back in, they substitute the MS setup and toss the new DRC setup in my trunk. It's a good way to build some customer loyalty and keep me from coming back for DRC issues.

I plan to pay full price for the coilovers. I just want Penske to install them for free and toss the new Audi Oilovers(DRC's) in the trunk.

It totally surprised me too. There was no leaking on at my 1k oil change. That's one good reason for doing your own maintenance. You can find little problems before they become big problems. The car drives and rides fine on the street.

It's under warranty and will be covered. I just want to apply the labor to installing Ohlins and not another set of shocks that are going to leak again in the near future.

Which means they can just throw it in the trunk and he can sell it on here/c-list/thebay to recoup some of his cost from the Stasis system. (Which is going to be sweet, if it works out that way)

Don't mean to hijack...but, its kind of related :) If one has stiffer sways installed, would Audi try to use that as an excuse not to allow a warranty claim on the DRC? I know its not directly related to the system...but you never know.

RAudi, If you have sways installed, it might be a good idea to put the stock sways in :)

Stormin's exactly right. That's my plan. Hoping they will go for it since it's really no skin off of their back and they get an additional $4,000 sale out of it. Ouch! Might have to do the SL's although I'll always wonder what if.

I misunderstood as well.. They should give you the set of DRC and I'd guess they'd install the stasis for free, instead of the DRC suspension. It's no different to them, actually may be a bit easier unless your a prick about setting the ride height :)

I had originally thought you were trying to get them to buy the Stasis for you instead of replacing the DRC!

That sounds like a reasonable request. I've heard good things about Penske although I'm not from the area so I don't know that first hand.
It might be a good idea to talk to one of the techs there first and see what they can do, rather than ask the manager. Local Audi dealer's service manager is kind of a dick but I've gotten things done by going over his head or talk directly to techs. It's nice to make friends with right people. Slip 'em a $20.

I'm sure that the techs doing the work would have no problem with it. It's all going to come down to whether or not the service manager is in a friendly mood. (You better hope he gets some the night before. )
