    Forge 004 not opening correctly

I did a little vacuum system simplifying today and it turned out great except for one thing. My Forge 004 is opening too slowly. It doesnt open as soon as I let off the throttle, it takes a split second. Then when it does open it doesnt open as well as it used to. Could it be because I used small vacuum line? I bought 10 feet of 3mm ID vacuum hose off the internet and its a very small hole that had to be stretched out over the nipples. Should I get 3.5 or 4mm and give it another try?

Also where is the vacuum reservoir? I disconnected it but I cant find it to remove it.

^that or you could have a small leak somewhere which is causing a delay/not enough vacuum in the system. recheck everything you changed for leaks and try again

Yeah Im thinking it might be a tiny leak. I noticed tonight that my vacuum drops to 15inHg if I let the car idle for about a minute or so.

Heres a question for you B6Lovin. When you ran the line off the back of your manifold to your brake booster, did you keep that fitting on the firewall or go from the manifold right to the booster?

i ran with the fitting on the firewall with no issues. went to ace hardware and got a nylon barbbed fitting that reduced from the size in the firewall to the size hose i was using (i kinda broke the old hose lol)

Yeah I think Im going to replace the hose with a nice flexible silicone hose. The only downside is that I have to buy 5 feet which will leave 4 feet that I dont need.

Next thing Im going to bother you with. How did removing the charcoal canister work out? What exactly did you remove and what effect did it have? Im trying to simplify things as much as possible. The only thing I have to leave while I save for a turbo upgrade is the n75. But eventually that will be on its way out also.

save that 4 feet, you'll need it eventually lol. audi vac lines SUCK.

i removed EVERYTHING. if you think of it in a "left to right" kind of way i removed everything having to do with EVAP to the right of the passenger fender well in the engine bay... and then tucked the things left up into the fender well.
(that is, looking at the front of the car with passenger being left and driver being right - yes i know that's backwards)

it worked out just fine for me, dead weight as far as i'm concerned. i dont know if it had any performance gains... but it certainly simplified things for me should i have to search for a boost or vac leak in the future. also shaved a few lbs (not too much, but some. oz's add up.)

keep in mind my tune permanently sets all my readiness codes to "pass" so i can take out whatever i damn well please as long as it doesn't affect the way the engine runs.

Well for the moment Im going to leave the evap system intact until round 2 (or when I get really bored). Im actually thinking of going with Unitronics software instead of Revo. I havent seen too much on here about their stage 2 (which is what Im going to be using until next summer). Do you have any input? And how happy are you with their BT software?

Again sorry for bugging you but the engine mods Im working on are pretty similar to yours so I figured Id ask you rather than assume.

sounds like a plan -- no need to rush anything. I would highly suggest Uni (obviously lol) but they really have been great. its flawless software that has succeeded where a lot of other files seem to have failed. it makes great power, i have ZERO cold start and idle issues on 630's, no maf, no cel's, no problems.

the ONLY problem with the software was that it made too much power for my rods lol.

when you say stage 2 i assume you mean k04. right? you should be just fine, they make some great files.

and its no problem - i'm happy to help out and answer any question to the best of my ability

I run a forge 004, you need to lube those things every now and again.

Actually the Uni Stage 2 is the big injector software. They are actually the closest tuner to me also so I think im going to go with them.

And tomorrow Im going to take off my 004 and clean and lube it. It just sucks because I did it like 2 months ago. I did notice what looked like oil coming out of the little holes though.

How much boost is your application making and which spring do you have in the valve?

Too stiff of a spring can certainly affect the valve in this way as well.
