    black hood roof and trunk

I am torn if I want to do this or not. I have a silver b5 and I am contemplating if I want to do this or not. I would probably end up going carbon fiber hood with black rook and trunk.

give me your input. I just don't know if it will look cheesy and out of place.

I dont think it will look cheesy if you can pull off the look with the rest of the car.

Re: black hood roof and trunk

wow...that was a fast response. The only thing I am thinking is the hood will most likely be carbon fiber. The trunk possibly carbon fiber, and you roof, idk if there is a way to make it carbon fiber but i feel like a carbon fiber roof would be a little too ricey for an audi. Same with the cabron fiber trunk.

    again I am very torn.

I have a set of gloss black rs4 reps on the way so i am going with the whole black and silver theme on my car. Blacked out grille, blacked out headlights, etc.

    I'd just do the roof.

A black trunk and hood makes the car look too 2-tone, a very retro look.

All depends on what the rest of the car's theme is.

At the most, CF hood. I'd definitely leave the trunk OEM though.

My black roof - although not apparent in the pictures, I opted for a mica / pearl-based black, rather than a straight gloss black...

Re: black hood roof and trunk

for silver b5s I personally really dig black hoods and roofs. The trunk is where I get sketchy...it kinda looks like a checkerboard in the back from the top view. I dunno, I would start with the roof, then get a carbon hood and call it a day. come to think of it there is a guy on AF who has just the middle 4 feet of his hood painted...that was cool if i remember correctly...i could be wrong...

please dont paint the trunk. roof only if anything, I'd say leave it alone and paint the cf hood to bodycolor.

mismatched paint just screams RICER (or kraut, in this case) to me. Unless your 16-18 years old, in which case itd be the cool thing to do but then you have to paint it back a few years later when you outgrow it.

an OVERLAY??? apparently you can't buy taste, no matter how much you spend.

edit: not that Im saying you're tasteless, that just really goes hand in hand with the non-performance rice mods that I love to make fun of. take nothing i say personally, Im in a not so great mood today.

Yeaaaaaaa, Everyone who sees the CF overlay on a roof and knows what CF looks like is going to laugh. If you were too cheap to buy a CF hood then I would allow you overlay a factory one just because its a actual part (cf hood) although it is major rice.

LOL....none taken....don't worry. I've seen it on a lot of euro cars, and yes a few ricers....it depends on the car, but I've seen it work several times....a buddy of mine also has it on his B3 Alpina e46 M3, its money.....just my $.02

That sounds like vinyl which can look nice depending on the quality. You could also just have your roof covered with gloss black vinyl and not worry about painting it.

i have a silver b5 also and i think about it sometimes, i think it would look real good, especially with black rs4 reps, grille, and headlights. I would maybe even think about painting just the roof and the center of the hood. Make it your own

There are a few places in most towns that do vinyl wraps. Tinting shops may be able to direct you to the right people. Otherwise call the local bus company (if you've got mass transit in your area) since they are often covered with vinyl as big billboards.

Applying is like tint or a big sticker. Clean thoroughly then clean again. Spray a water solution with a drop of dish soap on the roof. Have a helper help you lay the vinyl on and then squeegee the water out to adhere the vinyl. This is also how clear bra is applied. I've done this to the windshield in the Cobra and it works well.

^^ that's the first pic that I've been able to tell that the sides weren't paint. In the others it looked like the vinyl matched perfect.

When a BMW 335i owner in Munich became bored with his black coupe, he hired a team to wrap it in white tape. Two days later, he drove home in his refreshed "Alpine White" coupe (with an M3-appearing black roof). No, it's not normal tape. It's a special 3M wrap, and the process is known as "foiling." Apparently, the German military has been using the process (with an olive drab tape) for some time now. Likewise, the process is popular with race teams and taxi companies. Available in countless colors, the tape itself is thick enough to protect the paint from minor chips and nicks, and it can be left adhered to the surface for 3-4 years without damage (!). Adhesion isn't a problem either, as the tape can even withstand an automatic car wash without peeling off. Thanks for the tip Frank.
