    Whats the best air filter?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was going to replace my oem air filter as part of the normal scheduled maintenance. But i figured for nearly the same price I could get a high flow aftermarket air filter.

Ive heard K&N has created problems due to the oil on the filter clogging the MAF. So i'd like to stay away from that one.

    What else can people suggest?

If you have searched, you would have got your answer. Most would agree that the OEM air filter is the best way to go. I replaced mine not long ago, and I got it from the dealer for about $30.

Re: Whats the best air filter?

have an itg on my b5, but just run oem filters on my b6. didnt really notice much difference in my b5, at least anything that i could attribute to the filter. i did have the filter-oil-on-the-maf problem with the itg, so i dont think its solely a problem with k&n. that was the oiling out of the box, not me re-oiling.

i say avoid the hassle, just stick with oem. sure, its a bit easier to just reuse an oil filter, but in the end, i dont mind spending a few $ here and there, especially if i know i will never have to deal with oil on my maf.

I have a K&N Free-Flow Panel that works great, i have been running it for two years without any issue. The oil issue you hear about is when people clean them and apply too much oil to the filter afterward which is then sucked into the MAF, this can easy be avoided if you clean the filer properly.
