i believe papachristou is running one, and i believe greg used to run one. think papa liked it, but greg's grenaded his tranny...that may be a power issue though.

its a mod i really want to do. however, i've been hearing a lot that its an easy enough mod to do on your own, as in replacing the shims inside the differential, with parts running a little more than $100. that's what i was looking into, but still in the process of doing a bit more research before i pull the trigger.

Someone has a kit for doing it, it's very simple. I can't remember his name though.

agreed, i have been looking into the dyi and it looks like it can be done. i am really just waiting for someone to post that has done this and has a bunch of miles on the car. i am not sure as to why this would kill the tranny? maybe i should hold off

its not for the average person, dont think you are going to do this mod then start drifting your car like a 335i or doing donuts like one either. most people dont drive the cars hard enough to feel it. however for me i can tell the car feels a lot more planted as you power out of turns and you can bust some nice u turns and get sideways as hell but truthfully you need BT power to really enjoy it.

    I have that 'kit'

The catch here is there is no warranty on what I did. If I break my trans or anything I'm fcvked. If you buy the STaSiS diff and something happens they take care of you. Ask Greg. They took great care of him when his broke. Why his broke, you'll have to ask him for I won't speak on his behalf.

you do not think the gtrs will be enough power to really enjoy it? i understand what you are saying and that is why i am posting the question. I will never feel this thing on the street however i do think it will have that extra push i am looking for when i do a de event. i have been way 2 busy with work to get to any this year but i am keeping this car for a little while and i am thinking for future use.

You will notice it with your GTRS. I'm at the least amount of power my engine will make right now and I notice it. When I had my car at the dealership last week for new tires the tech asked if I 'tweaked' my center diff. He noticed is because you can feel it just off idle in parking lots or making a u-turn.

The only thing I'm worried about is winter driving since it places more bias to the rear. Worst case is I throw my 50:50 diff in for the winter since I still have that in my basement.

Re: stasis center dif..should i purchase?

i was under the assumption that it has the ability to shift as much as 80% of power, depending on which side need it. if the front needs it, it puts more up there and what not.

i dont understand how that adversely effects driving in snow. it doesnt make the diff rear bias, it allows it to be more rear bias when need be. as stock, the power is still split 50/50,

the thing is, when u turn or launch, weight shifts to the back, which places the most grip on the back wheels. hence the diff shifting more power to the back. with the upgraded diff, it can shift even more power to the back, hence better traction and what not. this is where the increased rear bias comes in.

again, this is what i believe. not sure about actuality, but it makes sense to me.

a GTRS is a BT! you will certainly notice and enjoy it... the reason doug is not so sure about winter use is that it does allow you to get a little more sideways than with standard 50/50 quattro. keep the car out of boost in the snow and it wont be a problem... dougs problem is he has sooo much more power than us! (well me anyway)

Sorry to thread jack but i pulled my front wheel off today and it spun freely with all three other wheels on the ground

Is that normal? I was aware that if you had 4wd that all 4 wheels would be linked and therefore atleast one wheel would have to spin if another spun.

Is there something different about quattro?

You have AWD not 4WD and you dont have locked differentials like you would when in 4 Wheel drive in a truck.

i just got my center diff and rear LSD installed not long time ago, and i am goin for a track day on 8th of september which is the coming monday, i will tell you how it feels with the new diffs.

btw, the rear LSD makes weird sound when the car is turning. it's normal but kind of annoying, ppl think your car broke down.

What you probably hear are the front tires scrubbing (I have that). The center diff itself should make no noises whatsoever.

greg has not posted, does anyone know if this center diff was the real cause of this issues?

doug, its not the front tires, i think its the difference in the speed on the rear tires. its not really a sound but you can feel it more persay.

greg clearly has more power than most and launches the car at the track regularly.

He has a LCD in the rear of the car, he is most likely hearing the inside rear wheel scrubbing. Why would the front wheels scrub if the front diff is still stock? It isn't like the center diff mod changes how the front/rear diff act.

Why would there be a speed difference between the front and rear tires? Well unless the person is running a larger tire in the rear.

Because Papachristou said he hears noises and he only has the upgraded center diff and the OEM rear diff. I was referring to his comment, hence the quote.

I know what a LSD does and the 'noises' associated. I have one in my Chevelle and I've driven off-road trucks with welded rear diffs (a more radical 'LSD', if you will).

i never said it was a difference in the front tires but perhaps a difference in the left/right rear tires when i turn slowly through a parking lot
