    A slew of n00b questions

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
... and yes, I already tried searching, but I can't utilize it because it's multiple words and it returns a bunch of garbage...

    Regarding my 04 S4...

    1. Are the B6 S4 brakes the same size as the new A4 brakes? (Front, specifically)

    2. What rims do you run your snow tires on, and what snow tires do you run? I have never dealt with 18" snow tires.

    3. Anyone ever port the TB?

    4. Quattro - still torsen based - still 3 open diffs with the electronic locking, yes?

On #2... I haven't done this yet with the S4, but will once money allows:

On old cars I have owned, I have used the stockers as my winter wheels and then gotten a set of nice aftermarket wheels as my summer set. It usually works out that by the time the first winter comes along, I am finished with the first set of tires anyways. I guess I am just driving a lot less now!

This generation of Quattro uses a TORque SENsing diff, however OPEN. According to stuff I skimmed through, the new system leverages the brakes to apply some sort of load on a tire with minimal / no traction, mimicking a physical LSD.

I have the exact same setup for Winter.

    I bought 18" OZ UL's for summer.

seriously? how could they take a step backwards? i cant imagine those brakes on a even bigger/heavier car. they are downright pathetic, especially the rears.

and his question was in regards to his 04 s4 which would not have a NEW system on it now would it?

its a standard old school 50/50 quattro torsen system, same as i have - the stasis 4:1 diff

Re: A slew of n00b questions

    1. (a simple search on Google "2009 Audi A4 Brakes" now you try)

    http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../pageId=139619

Brake Type (front): 12.6-by-1.2-inch ventilated disc and floating caliper
Brake Type (rear): 11.3-by-0.48-inch solid disc
so no, B6 still 1" bigger.

    2. What is this thing you call 'snow'?

    3. You can port it yourself, you can have someone else do it...but the TB is not the bottle neck so you won’t gain much, not worth the trouble for maybe 2hp. It is the bottle neck on Mercedes 55 AMG’s (if you cared to know), those bustards gain 20hp

    4. All ready answered
B6 S4 Winter Beast: Supercharger, Carbonio-hybrid Intake, Fast Intentions DP & CB, CF Vented Hood. Susp:PSS9 Coilovers, Hotchkis F&R sway bars, Brakes: B7 RS4 Front (w/LW rings) & rear BRK, SS lines. Snow tires.
Daily Driver: BMW F15 X5 M50d clone, DUDMD tune, water/methanol injection, 38mpg highway
