    A4/S4 headlight question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I bought some S4 bixenons off a fellow Audizine'r and they didn't come with the backing (where the ballast attaches). Also, since I've got an 02, I've got the 5g ballasts, where I apparently need the 5gl ones.

I'm wondering if you guys have any suggestions on where to either source the part (Audi's only selling the headlight as a whole unit, thus very expensive and I'm a student on a very limited budget), and if my current 5g's would work (doubt it because of sizing issues).

One idea I had was to do something along theses lines. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=232009

I could potentially use this new kit, and then have new bulbs and everything, but would it work? I suppose I'd have to fabricate some sort of backing/attachment. Hopefully someone would be able to shed some light on ideas on how to, or better ideas. Anyone ever taken on a project similar to this?

    Thanks in advance.

buy 2 5GL ballasts on ebay. They're cheap.

Wrong, any dealership will be able to order the parts. Tell em to look it up in ETKA, the covers have their own part number, and you can buy them separately.

    Re: A4/S4 headlight question

Is this LAD5GL ballast only made by Valeo? Doesn't the 5gl refer to the power output? What would be the advantage of using OEM over aftermarket for these lights. Aftermarket will almost def be cheaper. Each 5gl looks like its about 200 each. I can get a whole kit, ballasts and bulbs (both sides) for under 200. Will an aftermarket kit, like that digital slim kit from ddm fit?

Sorry for asking questions, I've been trying to read and search but I can't find info pertaining to this and, but some of the responses I have seen about headlights show many of you know what you're talking about.

Also, any ideas of price for the backings of the lights?

    Re: A4/S4 headlight question

Thanks, but that's just for one ballast right? So I'd need to spend 220 for a set? Then, I'd also need the backings to the lights (knowing audi parts, they're probably super expensive).

Don't you think it would just be cheaper, and possibly easier, to use the other kit? I could then just keep my A4 lights intact, and use new bulbs (i wanted to get 5 or 6000k bulbs anyways). Or is it just a better idea to stick with OEM.

Stick with OEM. Get the D1S bulbs w/ ballast for ~$300 from HID concepts as mxrz said!
