Does anyone know where I can get actual tail light units that are smoked or those smoked film that go over the tail lights? Any help would be awsome. I tried ebay, but there are none for the D2.

I was actually looking into doing the same mod....i talked to one of my buddies who owns a shop. he has done a couple of D2's around my area and he just had his tint guy do them. so thats what i was going to do, that would be my suggestion is to go to your local tint guy and have him put what ever percent you want

I am a painter of 29+ years and I have painted a lot of them for other enthusiast website clubs. I use Dupont paints same pro paints used on exteriors, most ship stuff from all over the states so if that's something you'd be interested in PM me. I also do interior hard plastic parts as well as smoothing out textures.

steve, do you have any pics of any d2 tails that you have done? I have a 2000 A8 (post-facelift) and I dont know for sure that the rear tail light bulbs are bright enough to shine through and I don't know what percentage to shoot for. Here in MD, it's supposed to be like a $60 ticket for having your tails tinted too dark. Thanks.

I'd rather buy taillights that are smoked from the aftermarket manufacturer (ie. hella, inpro, or FK), or the smoke adhesive vinyl covering. That way I can always go back to stock, if I change my mind.

You can buy Lamin-x in a variety of sized sheets and cut it to fit. It's the vinyl laminate most everyone uses. It's very thick, almost rubbery, stays smooth and sort of self heals.
