Question 2 Polar Opposite Questions for (at) Owners ??? (launch&mpg related)

    1. With the auto transmission, what is the best way to get a good launch off the line for a 1/4 mile test?
The engine power seems to cut then kick back in as if the traction control kicks in or something, especially when I put it in 'S' mode. It doesn't seem faulty in any way, just restrictive.

    2. What tricks/techniques have you developed to preserve gas in your daily drive (city & highway)?

Re: 2 POLAR OPPOSITE QUESTIONS FOR (AT) OWNERS ??? (launch&mpg related)

Ive asked my self this several times. So I seat of the pants and computer checked this.

1 Don't hold the break and try to go 100% throttle. The car bogs down and seems to delay full throttle.
2 turn off track con put in S and just stab the throttle. The converter will flash giving you the best IMO launch.

This has been the best way for me. Any other way and the car seems to not launch as fast

test and let me know what you think

in the city it really sucks...I accelerate as slow as I can there really is no point…I get maybe 16-18 if I drive like a granny…

Freeway: 65mph I get 28-29, and at 62mph (the sweet spot) I get 31-33mpg…tires are inflated to 45 in front 42 in rear, no junk in the car.

The way I launch: Push brake pedal all the way rev it up to 2000 and simultaneously let go of the brake and mash the throttle.

    Sounds smart.......

Just turn off your traction control and floor it, best launch IMO without abusing your car.

If it is possible to get 31mpg on an auto than what are the high numbers possible for the manual? I know it is epa rated worse.

I don't know about 31 but I'm definitely in the mid to high 20's depending on style of driving. All this according to the dash

Re: 2 Polar Opposite Questions for (at) Owners ??? (launch&mpg related)

    good info guys. thanks.
i'm going to have my tires inflated differently. i've been hearing that a lot lately.

as for the launch, i will let you know this weekend.
    any more input is welcome.

p.s Papachristou - you are absolutely correct, but after having procreated, an auto was just a safer option with things like bottles and babies in my car and a wife who is horrible at stick (for those very rare times she drives my car)...i couldn't justify it.

Long trips when I don't drive like a jerk... Yeah, I see 26 without question.

As the speed goes up, the MPG's seem to drop off rapidly.
