Oil leak, I have an oil leak coming fron the top part of my motor i recently did my Valve cover gasket and just reseated it today to make sure it was on properly was kind of lose, but i see oil on my hoses and some of my lines on the intake manifold side.. anyone know if there are lines on that side above the oil filter which carry oil? and might possibly leak?

    This is for a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro

this oil leak is really killing me.

Did you put some RVT sealant on the four needed areas.

    Re: oil leak

yup everything was torqued down, sealant in all 4 corners. i saw some oil on top of a few lines on the intake manifold side right above the oil filter. i just had my Transmission done and they replaced the Rear Main seal as well as a leak that was coming out of the Oil pan didnt see any oil. But its dripping from somewhere.

    Re: oil leak

there's nothing there but the valve cover gasket... are you sure it's not grime/fuel gum from leaking injector o-rings?

that stuff looks like oil when it gets dirty, and is the only other thing there besides coolant.

unless you have a CRAZY crank case vent leak that's blowing oily blow by all over everything

    Re: oil leak

i know this is gonna sound kinda off base -- but it could be your headgasket.

my friend's eclipse is leaking from the headgasket (he thought it was the vcg too) but his car doesn't run rough, there's no visibly bad oil/coolant mixing, no smoke in the exhaust, etc -- but that's DEFINITELY where it's coming from. we degreased his whole motor after replacing every seal but that from top to bottom and pinpointed it that way.

    Re: oil leak

Is it possible since i just had my Timing belt job done at an audi specialist shop that it could be leaking from this? comming from the front leaking down the sides and falling on the bottom of engine to complete the oil drip? Someone i heard talking about cam tensioner seals or something?

    Re: oil leak

What about your cam tensioner gasket? That probably should have been replaced when you did your VC gasket since the VC has to come off to get to it.

I know I had a small "leak" coming from there on my B5. I'm sure it's about time to replace it on the B6 too.

    Re: oil leak

I've been looking for a DIY for the cam tensioner gasket as well. Unfortunately I have not found one. I don't think many attempt this one on their own as it requires the cam tensioner to be compressed. There is somewhat of an example on passat world, but this guy actually removes one of the cams. Not my cup of tea.
