even more light questions - SOLVED

Since one of my ballasts went bad I've decided to redo ALL my lights. I got the 55w HID upgrade for the lows, Silverstar Ultras for the highs, but now I need advice for the brightest fogs. Right now there are yellow bulbs in the fog lights, which I'm just gonna throw away unless someone wants them. I did that Sylvania search and saw that I need H11 bulbs. I've been searching for a couple of days now and can't find any high performance H11s. Advice?

H11s for the fogs? Unless you have something that is aftermarket what you need are H7s

    Re: even more light questions

yea fogs are H7... i usually consult the application guide on the piaa website if i forget. if you want to do an HID kit for the fogs i used the VVME one with no problems... if you like the yellow look go with 3000k bulbs, or you can match them to your low beams with the other applications if you desire. inexpensive, easy plug and play install, and tiny ballasts http://www.vvme.com/catalog/list-s-10145-10146.html

    Re: even more light questions

My car is a 2002. I've checked and re-checked all the application guides, and they all say H11 for the fogs. I absolutely HATE the yellow look (this is NOT France), plus I need max light output for driving in the snow.

    Re: even more light questions

that's odd i thought all of our cars used H7 fogs. at any rate with regard to light output the more yellow the bulb (lower the K value), the better the output, especially while driving in inclement whether.

    perhaps this is helpful http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-hid-bulbs.htm

    Re: even more light questions

I guarantee they are H7. Easiest way to know for sure is to look at them, it'll take you about 2 minutes and save the headache of ordering the wrong type of bulb.

Well shit, maybe he should post in the right section. I don't see anywhere in B5 S4/RS4 that says B6 A4. OP, look where you click next time.

    Re: even more light questions

Well golly, thanks guys! I mean I THOUGHT I bought a 2002 S4. The title says 2002 S4, registration says the same...VIN confirms it. But you two geniuses tell me I must be driving a '74 Buick or something. I guess Mensa doesn't send their members a link to Audizine.

    Anyway...http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

Type in 2002 Audi S4 and tell me what comes up for fogs. I'll wait...

Ok, well now that that's cleared up, I promise that the fogs in your car use H7 bulbs if they are stock fogs. Like I said before, pull off one of the grills, unscrew the fog light, and take a look if you want to confirm that.

    Re: even more light questions

Alright FINE! So they were H7. So Sylvania was wrong. Which is good because I could just go get some Silverstars! With apologies to Cruz, the yellow bulbs did NOT produce more light. Proof:

    before (yellow bulbs)

    and after (Silverstars)

    Re: even more light questions

its not that they produce better light. they cut through the fog, snow and rain better so you will see better. if clear lights were better don't you think the cars in europe would run those stock in the foggy moutains

Re: even more light questions - SOLVED

yea dude, i didn't mean that they [I]look[I] cooler and more bright i mean from a technical perspective. on audiworld this is a topic that's been argued in millions of threads. i mean i could care less about the functionality of my fog lights with regard to weather that's why i put 6000k bulbs in to match my headlights, and rolling around at dusk they look cool with just them on thanks to the fog light mod (which it appears you have done, kudos)

Re: even more light questions - SOLVED

No mods, those are just plain ol' Silverstar bulbs. And I understand the theory and I've read countless explainations. I even did a yellow fog mod on one of my old Porsches...

But I live in Colorado, I've driven in MANY snowstorms on unlit mountain roads, and the yellows just don't help. Maybe it's me - maybe I'm colorblind to yellow.
