Chrome is ANNOYING!

So I have the RS4 Blackout Grill and the filler plate. The Filler Plate unfortunately has Chrome Trim top and bottom and its pissing me off.

and yes i know my Rings are still not blacked out.



Does anyone have a Filler plate all Black/FlatBlack? That they would like to trade?
Only thing is.. mine is used.. bought it used and has been on my car for only a few weeks.. has 2 holes drilled in by previous owner to put plates on.

to each their own, but once you black the strips and the rings out you might say to yourself, "man this looks too dark and dirty". see some pics on some other cars on here before you make the same mistake.

Flat Black spray paint ain't gonna cut it, even with enamel. I had the same dilemma you do now and I ended up buying the ECS flat black filler. I must've repainted my stock one 15 times. It's not worth it. My friend goes through the same things with the emblems on his GTI.

The filler plate comes off with about 5 screws from the front of the car. Those strips come off the filler plate by snaps. sand the chrome off of the strips, spray a base coat of primer, then paint it flat black. the hardest part is going to be the sanding. its not that big of a deal.

thats not the filler plate you have. that only fits the dtm grille. your filler plate goes for close to 100 new

If you want to DIY, do plasti-dip. It will hold up to the rock chips and you don't need to sand it down. If you look at audiwxguy's front grill surround. it use to be chrome and is no black plasti-dipped!

u could always just leave it and not black out your rings looks good on white IMO but i do have mine all blackedout but i have red just my 2 pennies

i used the plasti-dip spray on my plate filler, sprayed the whole thing. it's been a least a year and has been holding up great. it has a nice matte rubbery finish. i'll post pics when i get home.

or just a strip of adhesive vinyl, the type use for decals, black has a satin type finish.

for the filler take it off with the screws pop off the strips use plasti-dip that way all u must do is give the strips a good wash with dishwasher soap. dry then spray with 2 or 3 coats. for the rings. i did mine i have a non-sline but it should be the same u need to remove the whole front end so 3 screws on top 2 on the belly then turn the wheel remove the inner fender then u should see 1 or 2 more screws take those off now stick ur hand behind the fender u should feel/see 2 bolts take those off. do the same to other side then pull off the bumper now u can just look at the back of the grill pop the tabs and take off the rings wash them then paint 2 or 3 coats then put everything back on
