strange noise after i turn on my car

hey guys, im getting a strange noise for a couple seconds right after the engine turns on. Its coming from somewhere at the back of the car i cant really pinpoint it
could it be the fuel pump? i see theres been discussion on here about it

Can you give some sort of description of the noise? There are all sorts of noises... Squeak? Rattle? Thud?

If it's the fuel pump, you should be able to turn on the ignition to accessory (no need to start the engine) to hear a whine coming from the rear passenger seat.

If you hear 4 short beeps coming from the same area when you get in and sit down, it's the secondary alarm battery that can no longer take a charge (and would need replacing).

If it sounds like a giggling noise, you have someone in your backseat.

likely an issue with the fuel pump. replacing the fuel filter can buy you some time before a new fuel pump is necessary. im having the same issues now with my car :(

its very difficult to explain, its sort of like a rattle but also a deep rambling sound, something like that, and it sounds like its coming from the back passenger side

If you have a 2003 A4, there's a recall on the fuel pump (while mine was built in 2003, it wasn't covered when it failed). It very much sounds like the fuel pump is starting to go. Make sure the fuel filter is replaced with the pump.

Are you under warranty?

Fuel filter is about $50 CAD from dealer, tax included. I got one a month ago.

Fuel pump not sure, but I would say $400 to $700 parts and labor? I got mine replaced under warranty last week. Check ECS tuning they should have it.

does the fuel pump make noise any other time except when i turn on my car? I think i heard it a couple times more, once at a light and once backin up i think, at first i thought my exhaust was rattling, but i dont think so

Yes, the fuel pump can make noise while the car is running. Better get it checked out quick.

do i have to get it changed quick, cause the weird part is taht it only started makin noise after i came back from my trip last weekend, there was nothin before, so is it am emergency to fix it right away? and what can happen if i dont fix it right away

While it may still work for a while, you do run the risk that the fuel pump could fail at any time. When it does, you'll be stuck with a car that refuses to start. It could fail while out driving (dangerous if out on the highway).

Schedule an appointment with your dealer to have this taken care of at your earliest convenience.

ok so i turn on my car today and it sterted and then it started studdering, and it shut off. So i started it again, it was still studdering a little but it worked fine after, so i went to the store, and it studdered again when i turned on the car, but i got home ok. So i guess this is am emergency now or what? or could it be something else.
i just hope i make it to the shop ok, im nervous to drive it now

Sounds like it's ready to go at any time. Make the next stop the shop, and plan a safe route so you can pull off the road and get a tow if needed.

same rattling noise happened to me the day my fuel pump was throw out. Fix it now before u drive it, it will die anytime now like it won't last 10 miles.

well, i thought i should share this. I drove the car last night and it died on the road. I had to push it by myself, which was not fun at all by the way, the cari s so bloody heavy i almost had a heart attack. Anyway i pulled into the parking lot and left it overnight cause the towing service was only available in the morning. Towed it this morning to this stupid raggidy and nasty cheap shope cause thats the inspection centre for my warranty i have to take it there the 1st time for some reason. (really stupid, this shop is like any other shop, even worse, damn) Anyway they couldnt deliver the part till the morning so hopefully it will be done tomorrow, and i hope my car doesnt get damaged, and i hope the pump gets installed properly.
Thats my sad story, im so pissed off right now ,anyway is there anything i should check or look out for when i pick up the car, or has anyone had any similar experiences like this and got screwed in the end with anything?

You know... I was just about to start a thread about this lol.. Mine I know must have a bad fuel pump cuz I just replaced the filter like 3k ago and since I put 1k on that new (OEM from dealer) filter it makes this noise back there again... And when the car is on, and I step out for a moment the car sounds like those GMC Suburbans that have that whine while idle... So I think its maybe the fuel pump...i dont know.. but if thats the case .. not good!! I have been driving it like this for quite some time, so I am not that worried... yet... But I dunno what to do..

my car has the same issue, not very loud though. its been doing it since last january or so...a rattling/rubbing noise coming from the back, like my exhaust is rattling or something....still hasn't gone out on me.

taken the car to the dealer since to get serviced and they haven't said anything?

you should look into that because if the fuel pump dies on you (and it could at anytime) it will cut off the fuel supply and your car will shut off (very dangerous, especailly on the highway)

well thats a different issue, its not the fuel pump then, it could be something with the exhaust rattling, i get it sometimes in my car at 1900rmp's

Mine actually when I really paid attention to it, sounded like a Whirling noise while on idle... Also only when the car has been off for a while (30min+) before turning the key all the way over I hear a "Ugghh-umpt" sound from the fuel pump area... and when I turn it over (turn car on) I get that constant whirl noise in the back...

I am kinda waiting on it just to die, but its been quite the trooper... I give it "pedal to the metal" on some straight away street in my area, and do "push" the car to beat the car on my left or right.. I give the fuel system quite the workout, and so far (knock on wood) it hasn't failed me yet!>>!>

it is only really able to be heard at idle/sitting still or going under 10mph or so...

no its heard at 1900rpm's just under 2000, and when u come close to it the sound is heard, and when you go over 2000 it disappears
lately it has disappeared, i havent heard it, really have no idea
