Well I have an extra k03s sitting in my room. I was wondering if I could send it to gpopshop and have them put the k04 internals in it, and then run the GIAC K04 software and supporting modds.

The difference between the two are the compressor wheels. Turbines are the same. You would need to acquire a K04-15 compressor wheel, and have a turbo shop put it on and balance it. Your housing would also need to be honed within the tolerances. I am unsure of the price of the wheels, but if you can manage to find them, I say give it a shot. Many turbo shops will charge $200-250 or so to rebuild and balance the turbo, and the rebuild kit is typically around $75-100 (new seals, etc). Rebuilding with new seals is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. That on top of the cost of the wheel, you're looking at around $300...but then you would basically have a like-new K04 in the car.

    Re: Help with turbo idea

ill have to dig up my receipts but thats exactly what i did. I blew my KO3 and sent it to the Gpopshop to fix it but then i decided to pay the additional $100-150 IIRC to get the KO3 to the KO4. Everything worked out great, they previously did the port and polish on the exhaust housing too. And i went to AWE last week to get my ecu reflased for the newer turbo. They do quality work and everything turned out great!

    Re: Help with turbo idea

ill check when i get home but the post above sounds about right. but that price is just for the trubo rebuild. then you gota add in the $$ for the upgraded compressor wheel etc for the KO4. This is right from there site. id call and talk to jim/jerry - they are really helpful.
    Standard Rebuilds
    KKK K03, K04, K06's $350.....
We also offer high-performance rebuilds for most turbo makes/models. The price for a high-performance rebuild starts at $395
