My car has appx 3500 mi on it.. ( 2.0 T ) Today on a way to my office - low oil warning light came on. I called a dealer ( Beverly Hills Audi ) and I've gotten an unusual answer..(which i think maybe B.S! )

service guy said that its normal for my oil light to come on @ this mileage.. i just have to go buy couple of qrts .. top it off and wait til my 5k mi service.
and if i were to bring the car in, they would charge me for ..whatever they put in.. is the above true???

I have never heard of anything like this.. I've had many cars over the years..and this kind of pisses me off.. Toyota would of taken care of it for free.. lexus & infinity same thing and they would of given a loaner..

I am almost beginning to regret that i got my car.. maybe its only in LA but almost every dealer i go to has a TINY service department, TINY parts counter.. I mean its pathetic - Dicount Tire has a bigger shop..

You drive up to lexus and it's a Service Complex, with Starbucks and Loaners.. WTF!!

    Re: Low Oil Warning

Well that's probably true. It's up to the dealer whether he tops the oil off or not, but Audi doesn't pay for it until 5K so it's up to them. Also, I've noticed a turbo uses more oil so you have to be contious of it. I did have a bad Pressure Relief Valve which was contributing but was replaced under warrentee.

    Re: Low Oil Warning

its normal to burn oil. depending on how hot you let your engine get, i put about a quart every 5k. I know I should be changing the oil more often but eh. im lazy

however, the dealer should add the oil at no charge. they SHOULD and HAVE to pay at no charge if you have the Audi Care Package. I always just drop in there without an appointment and have em add some oil. it takes 30 seconds.

I've gotten the same response from my dealer too and I just think it depends if you drive your car really hard. I've had to top off the oil a couple times.

within LA, I feel that downtown Audi has the best (from my experience) service that is more than accomodating. thing is, I live in Beverly hills too but refuse to take my car there.

That is complete B.S. and I have never heard of that before. The (synthetic) oil in your A4 should be sufficient throughout your next scheduled maintenance, if not; more, let alone 3,500 miles!
Also, I've heard nothing but bad about Beverly Hills, never been there and I don't think I want to. Rusnak Audi Pasadena (also excellent) is closest to me at walking distance, but I agree with 4ringsinLA; I'd hit the 110 FWY South and bring my car to Audi of Downtown L.A., because the guys there know how to do it right and their service is excellent as always.

I bet if you bring your car in to Downtown, pull up to the service area and mention the light; they'll top it off without hesitating.

    Re: Low Oil Warning

Its normal. I have had 3 Audis - all did it. End of discussion. However, your dealer should top it off for you. I keep a quart in the trunk, but if I'm nearby my dealer tops it off without blinking an eye.

    Re: Low Oil Warning

Like someone else said, its probably because the car is turbo. Our BMW needed a full quart before it's first oil change too (and more recently needed coolant added as well) BMW gives you a spare quart of oil in the trunk though, and after i dumped that in i just swung by advance auto and grabbed a quart of Castrol syntec to replace it. The dealer also topped off the coolant last week when the light came on. I think you need to try another dealer, especially if they're not offering loaners either. The Audi dealer near me gives loaners, or at least will drive you to work and pick you up if they dont have one.

    Re: Low Oil Warning

Needing an oil top off and having the oil warning light come on 3500 miles in are two entirely different things.

Yeah... this is LA, people @ the dealerships are not so nice and like i said.. most service depts i came across look like Ma&Pa repair and lube shacks.
And i do have the audi care.. it was like $600.00

Then you know where i am coming from.. BH Audi sucks balls..
My family has a Cayenne and e-break light keeps turning on.... they said it was nothing and to drive "carefully" and let them drive out with bad brakes..and thats after replacing the entire motor at 100mi.. a PORSCHE.. then they just gave us a runaround when GPS kept going (east)

I am just so disappointed in quality of service from this "luxury" brand..

Here's my beef.. If i spend so much on a car.. I shouldn't even have to look under the hood unless its to install a performance mod.. In 5 years of owning both Lexus and Infiniti I've maybe looked under the hood a dozen times.. ( when engine bay was detailed )

seriously - buy an audi - become a service tech too?? damn.. so what is the warranty for .. or perks of getting new car?? - so disappointing

To above comment - I totally forgot about Rusnak and Downtown.. I work right around the corner from Beverly Hills audi..and live just up the hill from Keyes. But its true.. Downtown.. it was a pretty huge structure..

BEVERLY HILLS AUDI.. worst dealer in the woorrrrrrllllldd..

    Re: Low Oil Warning

I had the same problem twice, at 4000 and 19500.
First time charged me for oil and labour, second i waited for oil change at 20000k, but i live in Venezuela so i dont know if that is normal
