stampy i dont know if i appreciate that... i understand every car is going to be an investment. i work at a car place for a living and get good prices and do most work myself... i just cant justify spending over 2k for turbos.. .brakes filters fluids gaskets i can understand, but a turbo is pushing it.... i mentioned two turbo'd cars with less than 50k miles... my a4 was purchased with 105k and the a6 with 78k... i love my car and want to keep it... but with the new fear of not one, but two turbos possibly going out scares me..
First of all....no car is an investment. If you can't justify Spending the 4K+ for a turbo swap....you shouldn't have gotten a 2.7t. It's not like you are new to the community. You should know the potential going in. That being said, why would you even consider another 2.7t? You know it doesn't matter the year, or the miles. The turbo's go when they feel like it. Sometimes for no apparent reason at all. I love boost, and really wanted a 2.7t. The thought of always having to have 4K available "just in case" didn't sit well with me. Brakes and whatnot are regular maintenance. These are Audi's, and they have the potential for more elaborate maintenance.
A buddy of mine bought his 2.7t about a month before I got my 4.2. We have about the same mileage (80K) and both drive like old men. He bought his for $5500, and I got mine for $9100. I spent about $1000 on TB job, and other normal stuff. He has spent $8000 on everything from his tranny to turbo's to wheel bearings to control arms. All he wants now if for it to start on fire and he hates it. I told him this was all a possibility before he bought in, but he insisted. Point is, he knew what might happen and was financially prepared. I myself have $$$$ tucked away for when my tranny grenades itself. Who knows, it might never happen. You have to be prepared though.
I'm not trying to be a complete asshole man. You are a young buck and you obviously don't have the coin/want to handle these potential fixes. If I didn't see this same topic from you but with a different problem a few months back I wouldn't say shit. It just looks like you should really have a reliable car that you won't have to worry too much about.
