I have a 98.5 2.8L Quat. The car was in the garage for 2 weeks and when i came back and turned her on, the whole cluster lit up. I got a flashing oil light, an open trunk light, and an empty gas tank light. The tach, speedo, odometer, engine temp, and fuel gauge dont work (the engine temp goes to max right away, everything else stays at zero). The car drives absolutely fine and sounds like the way it always has. Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to fix it? I dont want to spend 200$ on a new cluster just to "check it out" and see if it works. I have a feeling it might be connected to the aftermarket cheap halo headlights i have installed. As far as i know Audi/VW are very sensative to grounds. I tried disconecting the light and it didn't help and i dont think that the whole cluster can just get permanantly "damaged" without blowing a fuse ro at least would start working again once the headlights (had they been the problem) were disconnected.
Any opinions and thoughts would help...
thanks
PS The voltmeter, clock, and oil temp guage work (although i have my doubts aboutthe accuracy of the oil temp). I also changed my oil recently
