How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello, as you can probably tell from my post count I am new.....I am thinking of trading my current car in on an A4 USP, but finding it hard to actually locate any at dealers nearby. How hard are these to actually find? I am not too worried if its the 1.8T or the 3.0.

Also, whats the going rate on a USP? Would $16k get a decent one?

    Thanks.

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

They can be pretty hard to find depending on your area. I'm in southern Cali so it was a lot easier for me, although I still had to look for quite some time and drive 2 hours one way to finially get it.

Pricing is going to depend on your area too. You may find one for 16K but it will probably have high miles on it. I did pretty well finding mine, but then again it's Socal. I still paid more than 16K though.

Try looking at cars from the members on this board too, these guys are car freaks and many maintain their cars extremely well. You may also find a car that isn't a USP, but has had many upgrades.
But if you have your heart set on a USP, just be patient and be willing to travel a bit.

    Good Luck

Yeah I think 16k will get you a USP but the miles will be a bit high. I saw a 04 USP with ~74k that had a sticker for $16999. Seemed a bit over priced as it wasn't in the best shape. But that was at a small euro dealer in Orlando, FL. GL with the USP!

Thanks all, I have found 2 nearby but both are automatic, one is $19k the other $20k. I would prefer manual, so will keep hunting.

I got mine with 43000 for 18600, thought that was a decent deal. Your probabally going to have some trouble finding one for 16. Usually they run between 18-22.

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

I have found a couple for around $20k, so I figure I should (hopefully) be able to negotiate that down to around $18-19K. Going to go check out a couple at a nearby VW dealer later in the week if I can. I read a post over on vwvortex of people finding some for $15k, I guess they are either lying or finding high mileage/great deals.

I wish I could turn back the clock and not have bought my current car, would have made things a lot easier if I just looked for an Audi back then! (even though I know every car has its problems, this one has been driving me crazy).

It took me several months to find mine too. But I did get exactly what I wanted. I paid 18K with 48K on the clock.

Or, get the car you want in a sport model and MAKE it into an ultrasport. Very easy to do. Many of us on here have done just that.

Its about a mile away from where I work, my only problem is that its an auto. But my wife will need to drive it and can't drive stick, so I either wait and look for a stick and teach her, or check out an automatic.

Is the stick that much better than the auto?

It's nice, but it really depends on if you want to mod the car or not. There isn't much that you can do with the 3.0 and the auto tranny isn't going to be able to handle alot of power. So if you're not planning on doing alot of performance mods, then that one would be fine. If you are going to do mods, then you may want to keep looking.
Maybe try finding an auto (to keep the wife hapy) but the 1.8 engine.

It's still a nice car though. I'd say go drive it too. At least that'll give you an idea of what you're looking at.

The same dealer also has a 1.8 USP in stock, might give them both a drive and see which I prefer. I am not hugely into modding, so the 3.0 has some appeal, but at the same time I could be persuaded by a few mods here and there so the 1.8T is appealing.

I also found a B7 that I might go look at. Going to be a tough choice since I prefer the B6 shape.

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

they are all extremely overpriced and basically all at dealers. For example i found a white one with 58k miles and they were asking 21,000 for it. That car only KBB's for 17k. So basically everyone who sells audi's is seriously overpricing them. I've been looking for about 7 months now on craigslist and i have yet to find a single one, that is priced properly, that hasn't sold in the first day or 2 of being posted. Unless you're willing to dish out more money than what the car is worth don't be prepared for instant gratification. It's gonna take a lot of searching.

My advice is to look at them while they're there and if you're serious about buying, don't waste any time. Like the poster above said, they go really quick.

NAIKU - check northern VA near DC. There are quite a few of them around, although expect the prices to be above $20k at most dealers.

Just like any commodity, USPs are subject to supply and damand. The reason that most USPs are listed higher than what one might percieve their worth to be, is that they sell quickly. Dealers will ask what they think they can get. At the time I was looking for mine in early 05 in Nothern Va, there was only one within 500 miles. All I can say is be patient, they are well worth it.

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

Ok, so I went to look at a black one this morning 41k on the clock for $18.9k, by the time I got there it was gone :(

I then went and test drove the silver one I posted above, I liked it, a lot. However, it had a few scuffs on the wheels, about a 5" long scratch on the hood, and a few of the buttons were peeling on the interior (I think the stereo buttons, and the lights). The hood scratch sucks, and the wheels being scuffed is not great, but at the same time most I have looked at so far have scuffed wheels.

My biggest problem was the labels peeling off the buttons, is this a normal thing with these Audi's? Other than that it was a clean car, 48k on the clock. I am 90% likely to replace the stereo at some point, but the light switch looked junk, is it an easy part to replace?

Also, when it started there was a quiet ticking sound from the engine, any ideas? is it normal? should I go back and make an offer? or should I walk away?

    Thanks.

buttons are somewhat normal, i don't have any peeling buttons in mine but some people do i guess it's hit or miss. What are they asking for the silver one, sounds like it's in pretty rough shape, i would walk away because you know everything you listed is really going to bug you. Wait and find one that you like and is in good condition, then you will have no concerns or doubts.

They have it advertised for $19,900 but I told them yesterday I thought I had seen it for $18,900, they told me if I wanted it they would sell it to me for $18,900.

I know what you mean about those little things bugging me, I think the biggest thing to bug me would be the scratch on the hood and the light switch. There is a black 1.8T that they also have, but I am not hugely into modding, so would prefer the 3.0.

I know what you mean about those little things bugging me, I think the biggest thing to bug me would be the scratch on the hood and the light switch. There is a black 1.8T that they also have, but I am not hugely into modding, so would prefer the 3.0.

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

I just found and bought an '05 1.8TQ 6MT Ultra Sport. The car is black on black, 25,700 mi, leased vehicle, with a pretty clean history. I paid $20,500. Maybe not the greatest deal but it was certainly in the ballpark.

FWIW, this is my advice. If you can find a car that is for sale by a Forum member. Take a hard look at it. These guys love their cars and generally will be straight shooters when it comes to accurate descriptions of their cars. They tend to love the brand. So, even if they are moving to a different model, they are going to be honest with you about their car. If not, their reputation on the forums goes to shit. Dealers, not all, can be a different story. With this in mind. You should take a look at: http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/...ct=433&cat=all
A lightly modded USP with low miles. 12 hrs 745 miles Richmond to Grand Rapids. Sounds like a fun drive to me.

Prices?? NADA, EDMUNDS, KELLY? I never heard of Manheim ( http://www.manheim.com/ ). From by brief search. Manheim ( http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...01/009326.html ), when they value a car, takes into account factors other than year, miles, model, etc. Demand for the car, availability, etc. is factored into the valuation. Nobody wants a USP? You'll find the 2005 model you're looking for with 15,000 miles at the low price of $10,000. Unfortunately, with this car, not going to happen. I can make you a heck of a deal on a '92 Suburban with 230,000 miles?

Get the VIN and take it to an AUDI dealer. Have them pull up the service history. Get a Carfax or autocheck done on the car. And if you decide to pull the trigger and buy. Consider an extended warranty to back up the whole mess.

    Hope this helps,
    Dave

Thanks for the good words Dave.

OP, the peeling on the buttons is due to Audi's decision to use soft touch paint. Unfortuantely, this is very susceptible to suntan lotion, skin oils, and other chemicals that really take its toll on the paint. You could possibly buy another button?

Have the dealer fix the hood at their body shop as part of the package.

    Good luck with your search.

Its about a mile away from where I work, my only problem is that its an auto. But my wife will need to drive it and can't drive stick, so I either wait and look for a stick and teach her, or check out an automatic.

Is the stick that much better than the auto?
LOL thats funny I picked up my USP at that same dealer on 28 in Sterling a year ago. I am actually thinking of selling mine. I want to upgrade to an S4 or S5. I am in located in Herndon, VA. I would be asking 22500 for mine. It has 61k miles. GIAC Stage 1+ TT injectors and APR exhaust. Car is in Mint condition with new tires. PM me if interested. Its a 6 speed manual.

FYI- I PAID OFF the car 5 months ago so the TITLE is free and clear and in HAND.

Good luck with the sale, unfortunately at the moment I can't afford to buy yours!! Which stinks, since its the right color, gearbox etc. I owe more on my current car than I thought, so might be stuck with it for a while :(

Re: How hard is it to find an Ultrasport?

    Hey there,

For me it took a few months to find my USP
I searched the internet and went to dealers.
I came accross a red b6 a4 1.8t USP at a Ma and Pa dealer and when I test drove it it grinded when down shifting.
Then there was a white 1.8t USP at another ma and pa dealer . Went to go test drive it and it was sold. :-(
They also had a black one for a little more than my price range.
Anyways a few months later I went to a porche and audi dealership and asked about a 05' A4 usp 6spd 1.8t and sure enough in about a month they were getting in back from a lease.
Went to go test drive it and it was like brand new. Course they replaced a few things. But it is in mint condition. :-)
    I paid 22,090 for mine on 52k
    It included a certified pre-owned warranty .
I feel a lot better purchasing a USP from an Audi dealer than ma and pa dealer.
    Worth the price. :-)

Anyways just be careful and don't settle for less than what your looking for.

same story... took me about 4 months to find exactly what i wanted... ended up paying 20k for 25,000 miles, but it was EXACTLY what i was looking for so i didnt mind paying a little extra for the usp.
